I’m guessing you either love or hate Jamie T – there’s very little middle ground. It took me a while to warm to the music although I could see straight away that here was a guy who loves making and performing music, and his personality shines through both in his music and his videos.

Jamie T released his second album, Kings and Queens, in September and has just released the third single from it. The Man’s Machine is classic Jamie T, and you couldn’t mistake the track as being by anyone else. He’s been described as “the bastard lovechild of Billy Bragg and Mike Skinner doing his best Joe Strummer impression,” but he’s managed to forge that into something new and unique.
Music video and review after the cut.
As with every Jamie T song, The Man’s Machine is all about the lyrics. He paints a picture with words, bringing poetry about everyday, modern life into music.
I take The Man’s Machine to be about how we;re all caught up in the rat race that surrounds us. But some people manage to stay on the fringes of it, doing the unexpected, living the slightly alternative lifestyle.
The chorus is addictive and it brings together the verses in an appealing manner.
The video is a combination of Jamie T rapping both in a golf cart and while walking along nonchalantly and old video clips designed to demonstrate or highlight what he’s singing about.
It’s not my favorite Jamie T record but it’s catchy and lyrically intelligent enough to deserve multiple listens.
