I was hoping “It’s Complicated” would score a PG-13 rating, because my 12-year-old daughter and I love seeing romantic comedies, and this looked like a great one to see together. Probably not going to happen, though I might screen it first and check it out.
The Nancy Meyers-directed film, starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, garnered an R rating by the MPAA, not so much for the sex scenes but because of the marijuana use. The official rating is “R for some drug content and sexuality.”
Ratings are really all over the place. When you think about the darkness of PG-13 movies like “The Dark Knight” and “Terminator: Salvation,” it hardly seems possible that “It’s Complicated” should be rated R. Guess we’ll see. The movie hits theaters Dec. 25, 2009.
