Well, Showtime Fans, could you have guessed his sobriety wouldn’t last? Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been back in the tabloids of late.
This time he’s in the hot seat for allegedly assaulting a waiter at a bar in the Paris airport.
Jonny Boy had recently claimed he’d cleaned up after a third try at rehab, but it looks like moderation isn’t his style.
He also was arrested in 2007 after a drunk and disorderly episode at the Dublin airport (deja vu, anyone?).
In Paris, he reportedly punched a waiter in the face after the bar staff stopped serving him drinks while he was waiting for a flight home.
“Everyone recognised him as the guy who plays Henry VIII,” a witness told Britain’s Daily Telegraph.
“He was insulting the police and saying he could buy himself out of any problems, even throwing money on the ground so as to prove how much he was worth,” the witness added.
JRM has been ordered to appear in court in September on charges of “willful violence, outrage, hitting and threatening death,“ according to news reports.
With several stints in rehab behind him (one of which he denied) and a number of playboy moments documented of late, it looks like the Tudors star is teetering on the brink of self-destruction.
What do you think? Is JRM’s alcoholism harming his career? Or can this Irish lad bounce back from just about anything, like his character in Match Point?

Is he ruining his career? How stupid. So he was drunk and did a stupid thing. Does the make his less of an actor? How do you people think? JRM is a beautiful person. So he has a drinking problem! How many other stars have had the same thing. Did that make them have lousey careers? I only hope that Jonny can solve his problems. Anyone with any sense would see what’s happening, and have some compassion.

Life can be hard when you have millions of people scrutinizing your every move. It’s not helping either to highlight some bad choices a person makes on a bad day and make a big deal out of it.
Should he head back to rehab? well, if he has a problem, sure, pity to waste his talent and such a promising career. Find a good one! But if the problem comes from bad publicity, maybe his publicist should hit rehab, not him.
