Not long ago I interviewed Ross Partridge, star of "Baghead," and he had nothing but good things to say about Jay and Mark Duplass, who helmed the movie. It turned out to be a darling of the film festival circuit last year, so every time I see any project of the Duplass Brothers, I take notice.
Now Mark Duplass is starring in "Humpday" along with Joshua Leonard. It’s a comedy about two guys whose bromance gets tested when they participate in a … film project. Ten years after the two were stirring up trouble on their college campus, Ben (Duplass)) is settled with a wife and home, and Andrew (Leonard) is a globe-trotting artist. When Andrew shows up at Ben’s home one night, things take a bizarre turn and they get involved in an amateur porn contest. But is it gay porn? Or is it "art"?
Directed by Lynn Shelton, who won the “Someone to Watch Award” at the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards, "Humpday" scored big at Sundance. It looks hilarious, and I’ll definitely be checking it out. Rated R, it’s scheduled for a July 10, 2009 release date.
