Episode 5.21: Saviors
Air Date: April 13, 2009
The episode began with protestors chained to each other around heavy coal mining equipment to stand up for a “green” cause. There are a ton of crazed workers trying to get back to work. One of the protesters collapses. A police officer ends the protest to tend to her. When her fellow protestor gets vertigo and falls down, he says he can’t get up.
At the Princeton Plainsboro Hospital Cameron tells Chase that she has to delay their getaway in order to help a patient get to see House. Chase protests, but she says that as soon as she’s sure House will take the case, she’ll be ready to go.

Cameron (Jennifer Morrison, L) brings a case to House (Hugh Laurie, C) and the team (L-R: Omar Epps, Olivia Wilde and Peter Jacobson) in the HOUSE episode “Saviors” airing Monday, April 13 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

She talks to House and his team, when Thirteen calls the patient a nutcase.
Thirteen: What’s the mystery? The nutcase spends all his free time wreaking havoc at toxic waste dumps.
Cameron: Tox screen’s negative. No neurological or cardiovascular abnormalities.
Foreman: The guy cares about the environment. That makes him a nutcase?
Taub: He’s a single guy in his twenties. He cares about getting his hybrid waxed by girls who care about the environment.
Foreman: See? Not a nutcase.
Taub: He’s probably just faking so he can sue the cops and get a six-figure settlement.
Cameron: If he was faking an illness, why would he consent to being seen by he best diagnostician in the country?
House: Now who’s trying to get her hybrid waxed?
House tells Cameron the tests that need to be run and that it’s her that needs to repay the favor, not the rest of the team, so she should do them. She reluctantly leaves to run tests.
Cameron does a test that makes the patient get vertigo and then he vomits on her.
House joins Wilson in the hospital cafeteria line.
House: Cameron just brought me a case.
Wilson: Cameron is happy in the ER. No way she wants her nose back on your grindstone. [to the person behind the counter] Egg white omelet, no bacon, whole wheat toast.
House: I’d say it’s not my grindstone she’s after. And not her nose she wants on it. She and Chase are practically living together….What did you just order?
Wilson: An omelet.
House: Since when do you pass on the swine? And wheat toast? Might as well eat a sheet of sandpaper.
Wilson: Yes, I don’t like eating the same thing two days in a row.
House: Your bro’s nurse not lovin’ the love handles?
Wilson: I’m just not in the mood for bacon. And you are obviously avoiding talking about Kutner, which is odd because you spent a whole week obsessing about why…
House: He’s no longer on my team. I’m sorry he’s no longer on my team. Nothing else to talk about.
Wilson: You’re wearing the watch he gave you for Secret Santa.
House: [shows his wrist] Five functions. Including stop watch. To time how long it takes you to ask me if I’m ok.
Wilson: You going to order?
House: [taking a pill] Not hungry.
Back in the office, the team discusses things.
Taub: It’s just weird. She’s brought cases before, but he’s never made her run the tests.
Thirteen: Maybe he’s looking for someone to mother him after what happened.
Foreman: The only kind of mothering House wants involves a bullwhip, leather diapers and a credit card.
Taub: [as Cameron approaches] Mommy’s home.
Cameron reports back to House about the patient’s test results. After the team discusses things, House sends Cameron off to run more tests.
After she does the tests and finds that the patent has chronic hiccups, she runs into Chase. She tells him that she is continuing to work on the patient and he asks if she’s avoiding him.
Chase: So, I shouldn’t be at all concerned that you’re treating another doctor’s patient for hiccups instead of going on the vacation that I spent a week planning?
Cameron: There is a reason I need to stay with this case a while longer, but I can’t tell you what it is.
Chase: So you admit that you lied to me and now you’re asking me to trust you?
Cameron: Yes.
Chase: [hesitates] Ok.
When Cameron reports back to House, he tells her that he knows she’s on vacation and that she passed up a trip with Chase. Then he asks if she still has the hots for him. She tells him that she cares about the patient.
The team discusses the case and thinks the patient may have MS. House sends Cameron off to do a lumbar puncture on him.
Foreman helps Cameron with the lumbar puncture and asks if she wants back on the team. He says that he’s glad to have her back, but it will mess up her relationship with Chase. She denies everything.
Chase approaches Cuddy and asks if she is considering filling Kutner’s spot on the team. Cuddy says that they will and that she didn’t know Cameron was running test on House’s patient.
Chase: Do you think Cameron’s In love with House?
Cuddy: That is a ridiculous question. She’s in love with you.
Chase: Are you in love with House?
Cuddy: That is an even more ridiculous question.
Chase: Two questions. Zero answers. I think I can extrapolate from there.
In the doctor’s lunge, House is checking out the healthy lunch Wilson brought when a woman walks in to tell him that she’s the patient’s wife.
House walks into the patient’s room and tells Cameron that he thinks Wilson put her up to spying on him. She denies it. Just then the patient has another strange symptom develop.
The team discusses the new symptom and House sends the team to do some more for the patient, but tells Cameron to leave for her vacation.
Cuddy approaches Cameron to see why she hasn’t left for her vacation.
Cuddy: You know what “vacation” means, right?
Cameron: Are you here about House, Chase or overtime issues?
Cuddy: He’s very concerned. Chase. Not House.
Cameron: If it’s alright with you, I’d rather communicate with Chase by communicating with Chase.
Cuddy: Are you in love with House?
Cameron: You are not concerned about me. You’re marking your territory.
Cuddy: You shouldn’t be involved with House. Neither should I. Neither should anyone. You and Chase are good together. Just don’t screw it up.
House shows up at Wilson’s house at 10:30 at night to rummage through his kitchen. He thinks that Wilson has changed his diet because of Kutner. Wilson tells him his assumptions are all wrong.
Just then, House’s cell phone rings and he and the team talk through why the patient is in excruciating pain. House tells them a course of treatment, hangs up and starts to eat Wilson’s food.
Thirteen & Taub do some tests and find that the patient’s femur was broken while he was lying in bed.
House tells them to have Chase repair the leg and then to blast him with chemo. During the surgery, Foreman tells Chase that Cameron is not on the case any more and it was obvious that he was surprised to hear it.
House finds Cameron in the hospital and confronts her about why she still hasn’t left for the vacation. He insists that she and Chase are over. She tells House that Chase is going to ask her to marry him and that she knows because she found the ring. She tells him that she doesn’t want him to ask her right now because she’s still freaked out by Kutner. She says that she doesn’t want him to ask her just because he’s scared.
In the clinic, Cuddy interrupts House with a patent. She wants to know if Cameron wants back on House’s team or back with House. He tells her no and she leaves.
Foreman tells the patient that he doesn’t have cancer, but just then, the patient starts to bleed internally.
The team discusses the situation. House tells them to do total body irradiation. They say it will kill him. Taub says to feed the cancer so it grows and they will be able to find it. House agrees with Taub and sends the team to do it.
House: [walking into Wilson's office] I’ve lost my mojo.
Wilson: Did you retrace your steps? Does your cleaning lady check your pockets?
House: I was clueless about Kutner. I was wrong about Cameron. Taub just came up with an idea that I should have seen long before he did.
Wilson: No one saw anything coming with Kutner. You hardly ever see Cameron. And you hired Taub to come up with ideas you wouldn’t come up with.
House: I have no idea why you’re eating carrots.
Wilson: Good
House: I’m losing my mind. All you’ve got to say is good?
Wilson: House, a guy you worked with for two years, you mentored and possibly even cared about just blew his brains out. You can’t find the reason. You can’t find meaning in it because sometimes there isn’t any. Sometimes, this is all there is. You should be losing it. You’d be crazy not to be off your game. But your mojo’s right where you left it. Just keep playing with it.
Thirteen and Taub are with the patient when his wife is upset at their approach to his illness and the patient tells her that it’s his fault for having exposed himself to so many dangerous things. He said that he wanted his life to mean something. Then he lost consciousness. Taub & Thirteen called a code and started trying to revive him.
Chase finds Cameron and tells her he’s been looking for her. She tells him she’s been thinking of him. He confronts her about what’s going on and she tells him she needs more time. He tells her no and tells her to let him know when he can come pick up his things.
In the patient’s room, House and the team struggle to come up with ideas to diagnose the patient. House tells them to put in a defibrillator and redo all the tests.
House finds Wilson putting coins into a vending machine and starts to go over the symptoms to see if Wilson knows of any kind of cancer it could be.
House: Aren’t you going to pick?
Wilson: I’m thinking. Is there a ticking clock?
House: But you already put your money in. You never do that until you decide.
Wilson: That’s very observant of you. Too bad you distracted me, now I might change my mind.
House: There’s nothing healthy in that machine.
Wilson: No, there’s not. [chooses Gummy Bears]
House: Gummy Bears! You hate Gummy Bears.
Wilson: People can change.
House: No. And more importantly, I hate them.
Wilson: Fine, then I won’t offer you any.
House: You manipulative bitch… You’re not suddenly eating healthy because you want to. You’re eating healthy because you know I don’t want to. I’ve been mooching food for 10 years. Either it started bothering you this week or you…
Wilson: I’m screwing with you. It needed to be done. After amber died, I withdrew. I tired to change everything, trying to sort it out, find some deeper truth. It was a mistake. I should have gone back to normal, to here and now. That’s all we can ever really count on. Things need to get back to normal in your life. And what could be more normal than me screwing with you…and you figuring it out. [they grin at each other]
House: You manipulative bitch.
House suddenly got an idea and went to the patient’s room. He stars to ask the patient questions about pesticides. After lots of questioning, he gets the patient to admit that he bought roses for his wife three weeks before. House tells them that he has sporotrychosis. [spelling?] It comes from the thorn of a rose. He tells them that it can be treated.
Then, he barges into an examination room where Cameron just finished with a patient. He tells her that the patient will leave his family again right away to go protest something else.
House: People only change after trauma if they wanted to change before the trauma. Or if they watch too many After School Specials.
Cameron: Are you talking about Chase?
House: I’m talking about you. You lost husband number one. No surprise that the death of a colleague would make you question another long-term lease.
Cameron: Are you teaching commitment classes?
House: Ohm sure that would be hysterical. Let me just give you the Cliff Notes. Don’t try to dump him by dumping cases on me.
Cameron: I told you I never wanted to dump Chase.
House: Absolutely. You wanted him to dump you. It’s totally different.
Cameron finds Chase and tells him he she shouldn’t have postponed the trip and he says he shouldn’t have planned it. She tells him about the ring and asks him to propose to her. He gets down on one knee she tells him yes.
House & Wilson go out for a burger and fries and laugh together. Chase & Cameron tell Cuddy their news and she’s ecstatic.
Then we see House playing piano and the harmonica when Amber appears to him and totally freaks him out.
This episode brings up some interesting things to think about. First, I love, love, loved the Wilson/House thing this week! What a great twist!!
What do you think House seeing Amber is all about? Is he really losing it? Did Kutner’s death bring up feelings he had for her? So much to think about here.
And will Cameron come back to the team now that there is an opening? Cuddy said they would be filling Kutner’s spot, yet the Executive Producers say that there will be no new cast members…
What did you think of the episode? I always love everyone’s input!!

This is not happening the CTB should not be coming back in any sense , I just never liked her character , hope as season ends she too disappear forever!!!!
I must say, I had exactly the same reaction to this episode as Katrina. I am so excited to see Anne back! I hope they work this story line well! (Which they will, of course.)
*SQUEE!!*
ooh, or i wonder if chase will be filling the spot, since they said jesse’d be back in almost every episode next season…? i kind of hope that happens if for nothing more than to give my favorite Chouse authors more fic fodder.
my jaw DROPPED to the floor when amber appeared!! but the second it was over, i was like, “ANNE’S BACK, WOOHOO!!”
the last scene with Amber reminded me of a medical show called Mystery Diagnosis, and its promo add “and what if you were having hallucinations but anything else showed you were fine?” LOL not first time that seems DS watches this…
and answering the question: “Is he really losing it?”
losing WHAT? he never had it in the first place, how can you lose something you don’t have? lol xD
I thought the acting in this particular episode was superb! Excited to see Chase and Cameron back on the front burner. I thought those two actors did a great job with their scenes without making them look awkward or uncomfortable. The kissing was a little lame – especially after an engagement – but who can blame them? I don’t think a wedding will end up happening (poor Jesse can’t catch a break with this chic in real life or on the show ;-), but I’m excited to see what’s next!
“What do you think House seeing Amber is all about? Is he really losing it?”
I’d say, yes, he does
Can’t wait to see what will lead to that!
Loved the episode, Cameron was amazing, I’m so impressed by Jennifer’s acting, as well as Jesse’s! Though I’m not a Chameron fan it was very moving.
The only thing that really annoyed me was Cuddy’s behaviour, again. She’s more like a love-sick teenage girl than anything else but definitely appropriate to her age. Huddy is obviously neither doing the show any good nor Cuddy’s character. I think I’m repeating myself, but TPTB should go back to the roots and re-focus on medicine instead of relationships that are doomed from the beginning.
