Episode 5.08: Emancipation
Air Date: November 18, 2008

And here are two spoiler clips for this week’s House episode. The first one with House & Wilson is great! And the second one, where House questions the patient is seriously intense!

This was a disappointing episode. I didn’t enjoy it and felt like the entire thing was poorly written and disjointed. As much as I love Wilson and House their scenes were less than fabulous. At least Dr. Chase got some air time :)

Other than the repartee between Wilson and House and seeing more of the original ducklings, this episode was surprisingly forgettable.

The tension between House and Foreman was there but just barely, not enough to make a dent in my mind. To me, it felt no more real than the words in the script. Also the new ducklings came across as filler. Like shredded newspaper or styrofoam popcorn, used simply as a cushion for the main event and immedietly forgotten about once the prize is extracted. Anyone would have sufficed for those scenes.
The prize was, though, disappointing. A less than adequate episode that will appear on DVD but only because it’s part of the series. Like the awful ornament Aunt Flossy sends at Christmas – you sort of have to take it, no matter how out of place it looks on your tastefully decorated mantel or how garish the colours.

Switching the personality traits of Kutner around like game pieces didn’t work for me either.
Up to this episode Kutner has come across to me as someone who is layed back and self reliant. He is highly creative when it comes to diagnostic medicine and doesn’t doubt his own judgement.
Here he appeared like he was having a really off week, showing himself to be far too trusting of his patient and confused by others around him.

To me Taub has always tasted like a softer, gentler, more companionable but less moral version of Foreman.

Thirteen, or Remy as she was finally allowed to say, has been absorbed into the background scenery. I had high hopes for her as the anti-House infatuated doctor woman but they seem to have discovered no purpose to her character other than to try and convince us that she has a purpose or a purpose beyond eye-candy. Thirteen really is the nice piece of art in the lobby.

The only redeeming feature in the episode was Wilsons’ new game of refusing to be Houses’ repair-man or his sought out but mostly ignored advisor.
Where they might take these two keeps me intrigued. But they need to hurry it up a bit.
I have loved this season as much as the others though a few years from now I suspect I will have found that seasons 2-3 is where House reached its pinnacle.

I hope House MD has not begun it’s long, or short, descent into mediocrity. If so, it is happening far too soon for me when it’s still one of the few things on TV which makes picking up the remote worthwhile.

Finally last nights’ dialogue contained no for lack of a better description, “oomph”. I can’t recall a single memorable line. There were no House-isms. No zip, bang or zork!
Every word blended into every other word. Another day (yawn), another line.

I hope next week’s ep’ is more gripping.
I need more grit in my House. This episode chewed like an empty hamburger bun.

Having blabbed that, over-all House remains among the crown jewels of television and Fox.
But, being well into five years of weathering already, it could use a bit of a spit-shine.
