Tonight we got to see the dramatic season finale of House. They found Amber as one of the “Jane Does” at the other trauma center and decided to lower her body temperature to give them time to diagnose her.

After a lot of second guesses, Wilson asked House to submit to a dangerous procedure to stimulate his brain into letting him remember. He did remember that he had gotten drunk at a bar and the bartender took his keys, so he called to see if Wilson could come get him and instead, Amber did. She drank a couple of drinks and they got on the bus.
It turned out that she was coming down with the flu and was taking something dangerous to counteract it. In the bus crash, she was injured so that she couldn’t get the toxic stuff out of her body and they knew they couldn’t save her.
Wilson went in and curled up next to her in bed and after kissing her, he turned off the life support machines so that would be her last thought before dying. (Very tragically romantic!)
Here are a few discussion points for you so we can get a dialog started. Leave a comment with your thoughts about the episode!
- We found out that Kutner’s parents were killed in their convenience store when it was robbed.
- What do you think of the fact that House was able to see the rash in his dream?
- Were you surprised at Thirteen’s anxiety about treating Amber?
- Were you surprised that Wilson asked House to risk his own life to save Amber’s?
- What are your thoughts about the fact that Amber died?
- How do you think this will affect Wilson? Will he somehow blame House for Amber’s death?
- Wasn’t the Amber’s death scene just the saddest thing? Even if I didn’t like her character, it’s still sad to me.
- Wasn’t the scene when House woke up cool…especially how Cuddy was there and so concerned?
- It was interesting how each character handled the death and House coming out of the coma, wasn’t it?

i watched this episode for the first time on DVD. I hated Amber. I cried for about 3 1/2 hours steady. The next day i watched them, HH and WH, again, and cried harder. I hated CB and i cried so bad when she died, how does that happen. oh well i love her character now…now that’s she’s dead!
I loved this episode… The emotional development of House is amazing! The fact he cried—no, the fact he risked his life to save Amber (when in truth everyone knows he was doing it to try and save Wilson from heartache)—no, even the fact that he finally admitted how much Wilson means to him (and to Amber!!111one) is ridiculously awesome.
I love Hugh Laurie’s eyes; he conveys emotion so well through them. The fact he kept apologizing to Wilson was very sweet. I liked Cuddy’s caring role while House was in the coma (watching him experience that seizure is somehow really cool to watch to me—go Hugh!) and I liked how they had House and Wilson just stare at each other for a moment towards the end… House looks so surprised that Wilson is there, but also vaguely pleading… While I knew it would happen, when Wilson turned away… agh, my heart. It almost makes you wonder who suffers more.
I really don’t want Amber to be dead, but be realistic…
The writers showed much more sense for nice looking story when they gave Wilson time to farewell and last kiss – it would look soooo stupid if the 5 season was like “oh, Amber, what a coincidence, we were wrong and we are happy you just came back to life”.
They won’t bring her back…. they shouldn’t have killed her!
I think Amber is really, really, really DEAD.
I am very surprised that so many are nit-picking at this episode. I thought it was AMAZING!
Time for Hugh’s Emmy this year!!!
I hope Amber don´t die! This serie needs LOVE, AND PEOPLE IN LOVE! Please!!!!
I hope Amber don´t die! This serie needs LOVE
…if we remember her….
oh wait that was Spock….
I still think she is alive!
she’s not dead!
Does anyone have a photo of Cuddy holding House’s hand?
Totally agree with ComanchePilot, lol on many points, especially the Cuddy thing. ;)
Other than that, loved the finale so much.
Great blog guys, keep going! Cheers!
Re: “. . they never explained how the kidneys failed or why. ” – ComanchePilot
the garbage truck hit the bus right where Amber was sitting. I figured she took the impact in the kidneys.
* We found out that Kutner’s parents were killed in their convenience store when it was robbed.
Nice stereotype – huh? “Welcome to the quicky mart, oh, you are here to rob me – so sorry, oooh, ouch, why did shoot me?” Yes – use the accent.
* What do you think of the fact that House was able to see the rash in his dream?
He saw it – he was attracted to her – and she to him. He noticed it. When she turned around – any normally testosterone influenced male would notice while checking out her butt.
* Were you surprised at Thirteen’s anxiety about treating Amber?
Obviously a lesbian thing.
* Were you surprised that Wilson asked House to risk his own life to save Amber’s?
No – Wilson was desperate. I’d do it and you would do it
* What are your thoughts about the fact that Amber died?
S&*t happens. She’d say the same thing. Drugs are dangerous things and you should not take an anti-viral for a cold. If it were me I’d simply do an IV – 90% of the symptoms of a cold are from dehydration. She killed herself. . . they never explained how the kidneys failed or why.
* How do you think this will affect Wilson? Will he somehow blame House for Amber’s death?
I LOVED the Rollings Stones reference – you can’t always get what you want. Wilson will blame House – personally – what a fascinating character evolution as Wilson becomes like house, misanthropic and bitter, and House like Wilson. Amber changed him – nah. Never mind.
* Wasn’t the Amber’s death scene just the saddest thing? Even if I didn’t like her character, it’s still sad to me.
Would ANY hospital ANYWHERE do that? I think not. Even the PResident would not get that treatment. BYPASS? she would have stroked out after only a few hours – she was there for what? 2 days? Never. Happen. Never.
* Wasn’t the scene when House woke up cool…especially how Cuddy was there and so concerned?
Cuddy holding his hand. His face was priceless.
7 Scotches, 2 Cosmos, $150 – paid by Amber.
Getting a cracked skull in a bus crash: $10,000
Two days of bypass for Amber: $150,000
Waking up with Cuddy holding his hand? PRICELESS
* It was interesting how each character handled the death and House coming out of the coma, wasn’t it?
The only real surprise was Cuddy – and the depth of her emotion over it.

[...] House is Right discusses the very emotional season finale, Wilson’s Heart [...]
The finale was a bit overwhelming. The bad stuff outweighs the good stuff too much (and the medical stuff was a little bit.. off) Analysis poorly removes the admantine (I forgot the spelling) but it will lessen it. And full blood transfusion might have helped too but I guess with all the organs failing, it would have been useless.
However, the finale was really a bit too hard. 13 having the disease was good enough as a bad news for the finale….
Anyway, I hope to see House on sept.
The character of Amber made sense in the end. The writers could have done alot more with her character during the time of her and Wilson’s relationship. She could have become a more intricate part of the hospital staff just like Chase and Cameron. They could have made her a workable part of the hospital, leaving her and Wilson room to have a relationship. I think the writer’s made a huge mistake in taking out her character when it is obvious that the one they needed to sack was 13. She is totally useless and serves as nothing more than a cheap Cameron clone (considering that Cameron was never that useful). Amber at least challenged House and Wilson and was strong enough to be equal to them. In the end at the very last scene we see for a brief fleeting moment what the possibilities would have been with Amber. The most we will get now is a kinder, gentler House, due to overwhelming guilt for taking something good away from Wilson, who never deserved being dumped on by House and his intense, unrelenting selfishness. That was the ultimate dumping by House. Wilson will have issues with this I believe…at least for half of a season. I do not see Wilson forgiving and forgetting anytime soon. Nor should he. This is also an open door for House and Cuddy to get together which is going to spoil the show. Without the sexual tension, it will do the same thing to this show that it has done to countless other good shows that went downhill the minute sex came into it between the major characters. If they pair House and Cuddy it will be the death knell for that show.
i think that it could have been someone who happened to look like amber and she is still alive… you never know with amazing shows like this… i thought that 13 had feelings for amber since she was so sad
Perhaps Amber was never on the bus and the whole thing was just a dream!
One of the best episodes EVER in ANY “soap”, wonderful acting, House finally showing himself human.
Pity they wrote CTB off, she brought IMHO a nice thrill into the show, both when competing for the job and hooking up Wilson and House into this weird triangle. She was intelligent, remorseless and loving at the same time. Anne is by far the most talented actress in the cast.
(Cuddy is still hotter though)
Both Ambers’s dying scene and House’s awakening were extremely strong, even if the episode on the whole seemed too much tear-jerking to me.
On this very string and dramatic closing of S4 the show is even more open to speculations on S5.
It should be obvious that Cuddy has a crush on House even if she desperately tries to hide it, but in this last episode we all saw how much she cares for him.
Wilson will certainly blame House for what happened to Amber even if it was not House’s fault and House tried to do everything including risking his life to save her.
I could not care less, honestly, if Cameron hooks up with House, she already said she did not miss him, and besides it would not be interesting…
Curious how they develop Thirteen in S5, she is still pretty much a bianco sheet which can bring surprises.
it was so sad!! and intense, i cried, for amber and wilson, but i also cried, because i saw house trying so hard to remember, and hurt when he knows whats happening, cause he knows that amber was truely dead, and in the end house was alone(with cuddy but i mean his feeling abaut the situation), and this wilson’s empty and hurt face, crush house very deeply.
This 4th seanson, was amazing, it was realy different from the others, at first time i felt a little disappointment, but with each chapter a new concept of “House M.D.” was growing, a soul change!!,
but i repeat, it was so so so sad
House cried. That is the first time he showed his feelings. Brilliant Character Development. I love this show. House FTW!!!
