Despite a critical savaging of the first couple of episodes, HBO’s new unconventional vampire series has been steadily gaining traction with viewers. B5′s Media Scribbler reports that HBO has ordered a second season of True Blood, which chronicles the adventures of telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire boyfriend Bill Compton.

The readers on our comment boards have so far been unimpressed. But the offbeat vampire show will get at least two seasons to prove itself to viewers now. Not surprising, as it comes from Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball and stars Anna Paquin. With the money HBO’s already spent promoting it, it would need to do some dismal numbers not to get a greenlight for next year.
