'HawthoRNe' Snags Two NAACP Image Awards Nods

Gorgeous and talented HawthoRNe star Jada Pinkett Smith has a whole lot to be smiling about these days. Just this week, the renowned NAACP announced that she and her TNT medical drama have been nominated for not one, but two prestigious NAACP Image Awards. Go, Team Jada!

The actress, who also serves as an executive producer of the original series, is up for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, and the show is in the running for Outstanding Drama Series accolades, too.

However, the competition is tough, so wins won’t be easy feats. Smith will battle it out with Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson, Regina King of TNT newcomer Southland (the nomination is for her work on the show while it aired on original network NBC), and Jill Scott of HBO’s The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.

Meanwhile, HawthoRNe will have to best CBS’ Cold Case, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, ABC Family’s Lincoln Heights, and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency to succeed in its own category.

What top-notch contenders. Fingers crossed that HawthoRNe triumphs in at least one race, if not both.

FYI: The 41st NAACP Image Awards will take place on Friday, February 26, at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and HawthoRNe returns later this year for its sophomore season.
