Has Anyone Heard of Islamic Hip Hop?

When you think of the Nation of Islam a few things come to mind and most of those ideas may just be stereotypical. Well, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Muslim religion let me try to confuse you some more by bringing up a new genre of hip hop music. It’s called Muslim Hip Hop and it’s taking the world by storm. A group called The Brothahood has capitalized on their clean Muslim morals to show that you can be hip hop without the typical hip hop shoot’em, drugs, violence lyrics. Their song “The Silent Truth” deals with topics like what its like to deal with racism and Muslim stereotyping.

A documentary featured the band in Halal Mate and had this to say about them;

Can four young Muslim rappers strive for success while keeping the faith?
The Brothahood are four young Muslim men, united by their love of rap music and their dedication to Islam. Speaking to the people in a language they’ll understand, they are determined to break down stereotypes about Muslim youth and their religion. But with their popularity on the rise, their intentions are coming into question. As the Brothahood tinker with success, they must contend with their own desires for success and conservative Muslims who consider modern music unlawful or ‘Haram’”. – Halal Mate
