Webseries are taking over the Internet and NBC is about to launch a big one. Gemini Divison is a futuristic cop drama starring Rosario Dawson and Smallville’s Justin Hartley.
Dawson plays NYPD vice cop Anna Diaz who, while searching for the truth behind her fiancée’s murder, is drawn into a secret war between a race of artificial life forms know as SIMs and the covert agency charged with hunting them down.
NBC will release the first episode of the series on August 18th and will be delivered weekly on an unprecedented number of outlets including NBC.com, SCIFI.com, GeminiDivision.com, VOD via Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS and DISH Network, in addition to EST (Electronic Sell-Through) via Amazon Unbox, Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE and Zune, NBC Mobile and several online video portals.
The downside of all this goodness is the price tag. Not dollars and cents out of your pocket, but a bucket-load of branding that will be included in every episode. You don’t even need to read between the lines on this quote from Cameron Death, (yes really) Vice President, NBC Universal Digital Studio.
“The combination of talent and the incredible storytelling and production value that ‘Gemini Division’ brings to our viewers provides a broad canvas for Intel, Cisco, Microsoft, Acura and UPS to explore new ways for viewers to connect with brands in a meaningful and organic narrative.”
Organic? So I guess UPS was still be delivering packages up to the moment of the apocalypse.
Well, I guess someone has to pay for these webshows and frankly, I’d rather see the hero lovingly carressing his new Acura than watch a 30 second car ad before or during the show.
You can visit Gemini Division‘s official website now for behind the scenes videos, galleries and bios on the cast.
