As the so-called Senior Stockades and Crush Party roll around, the Cartwright siblings continue to experience their own fair share of difficulties on this episode of Greek.
If it isn’t Rusty seriously questioning his choice of major, super-nerdy Honors Engineering, when he grows bored with an advanced seminar in polymers, then it’s Casey stubbornly (and very slowly) processing her anger at Frannie for tonguing her ex Evan in public. Casey then must struggle with the realization that her latest potential lover is also Ashleigh’s long lost Hot Ness Monster from Spring Break.
Rusty does the right thing by consulting with older and supposedly wiser students like Cappie and his dorm’s new Resident Advisor Max (Michael Rady of Swingtown and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2) to figure out why he’s lost the interest in engineering that started at age 11 when he bought some miraculous Silly Putty. Cappie offers the brilliant — and spot-on — advice that maybe its time for Spitter to contemplate a new major that turns him on.
Thankfully, however, it never comes to that. After Drew warns him about the upcoming Senior Stockades — a regular tradition, during which senior students torment underclassmen by forcing them to break into rooms sealed tight, all for the hope of reaching a puny prize waiting inside, such as a pack of batteries — Rusty resolves to get into his RA’s room, whose door is obstructed by a sheath of polymer material behind a wall.
Rusty just misses the midnight deadline, but Max invites him in after a potty break and shares his own reasons for being enthralled with science. He even has an egg of Silly Putty in a bag, although Rusty realizes the dude is just a genius when Max reluctantly admits he’s already worked at NASA.
Casey gets over her issues eventually, too, and in fine style when it comes to Frannie. But, first she must clear up a tense situation with her BFF Ashleigh, whose Hot Ness Monster (aka Drew Collins aka The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2‘s Jesse Williams) she almost unknowingly hooks up with when they meet in the waiting room at the career center.
Sparks fly immediately and much flirting follows soon after, leading to a joint Crush Party invitation for Drew from both women, who naively believe they can be mature about their shared object of desire. After Ashleigh learns the brutal truth at the Crush Party that Drew doesn’t even remember her from Spring Break, Casey gets her chance but wisely realizes a hot guy isn’t worth destroying the friendship she has with Ashleigh.
Her big sister Frannie, however, is another issue all together. As Casey tells her point-blank at the end of the episode, sure, they are and will always be figurative sisters. But since Frannie chose the possibility of a relationship with a guy over their friendship, the friend part is gone forever. Touché.
And, finally, we have poor, still suffering Rebecca. Cappie tries to help her turn her sudden infamy into a good thing by taking advantage of her father’s scandal and the resulting celebrity to get something for nothing. He calls it tasting the perks of fame that help fine folk like Paris Hilton get, say, better parking spots and attention out on the town.
Rebecca plays along, too … until her parents call to say they’re divorcing. Not even Cappie’s offer to blow apple juice through his nose is enough to make her feel better after such a blow. In fact, it causes Rebecca to walk out on him when they’re on a date, making it clearer than ever just how differently the two approach life. Can this relationship really last?
