Gold Medalist – And Battlestar Fan

"Battlestar Galactica" Season Four Party - Arrivals

What image comes to your mind when think of sci-fi fans?  We’ll forgive you if a gold medal wrestler isn’t the first mental picture you get. But Canada’s first gold medal winner of the 2008 Olympics, Carol Hunyh, told the Calgary Herald she’s a “fantasy geek.” Among her passions are sci-fi and fantasy novels and she’s now watching season one of Battlestar Galactica. That is, when she’s not totally dominating her opponents.

I’m betting the fictional Starbuck would find in a kindred spirit in this real life 5-1, 105 lb. firecracker whose life story could be a novel itself. Hunyh is the daughter of immigrant parents who Vietnam in 1980 and were sponsored as refugees to Canada by the United Church. Congratulations on a hard-earned win and showing that sci-fi fans come in all types. So say we all.
