It is not a high-profile sci-fi franchise launch without a comic-book tie in and J.J Abrams near-guaranteed blockbuster Fringe is no exception. Newsarama reports that a comic series based on the upcoming Fox TV show is coming out under DC Comics’ Wildstorm Imprint.
Even better for those eagerly anticipating the X-Files reminiscent show, the comic book will actually launch before the TV show. The book is slated for an Aug. 27 release, while Fringe doesn’t debut on Fox until Sept. 9. In true J.J. Abrams clue-dropping fashion, there will apparently be some things in the comic book that will play into the show. Representatives for Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions caution that you won’t need to read the comic to understand the show.
Many of the show’s writers will contribute to the comic’s scripts so it should be pretty authentic. This could be a big coup for DC. Just don’t let any of that Fringe stuff spill over into Gotham City. The Batman doesn’t take too kindly to interlopers on his turf.
