Fox’s New Amsterdam features a New York homicide detective named John Amsterdam who has a secret. He is an immortal.
Described as being brilliant and enigmatic, he became immortal in the year 1642 while saving a young girl from certain death at the end of a sword. This young girl not only saved his life, but placed a “spell” on him, giving him the gift of immortality. The series stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (John Amsterdam),
Zuleikha Robinson (Eva Marquez), Alexie Gilmore (Dr. Sara Dillane) and Stephen Henderson (Omar).
Is immortality truly a gift? We’ll have to see when this series airs on Tuesday, March 4, at 9:00 PM EST, and again on March 6, on Fox.
One aspect of this series I find compelling is that if John Amsterdam ever feels a pain in his heart, it would mean that his soul mate is near. I believe John has spent all these years waiting for this to happen, and he won’t age until he finds her. I think seeing the City of New York in his eyes will open up some dialogue about the history of New York as well.
