Zutons guitarist Boyan Chowdhury left the band on July 13th in a supposedly amicable split caused by that old favourite “musical differences“. Well now, just 10 days later, he’s formed a new band called ‘The Gravity Trap’, a completely Liverpudlian affair.
Boyan joins fellow scousers Graeme Robinson, formerly of The Stands, Luke Thompson from The Cuckolds and Ronnie Mintor from The Miracle Cure in what is being billed as a scouse supergroup!
The band already has a MySpace page in place with 2 songs on which you can listen to to get a feel for the sound. The band put out a statement saying…
“The band has been looked upon as a sort of super group after breaking the news to the social elite at the local retreat. Made up from Boyan (The Zutons) Graham (The Stands), Luke (The Cuckolds) and the odd one out, Ronnie Mintor who is the brains behind The Miracle Cure. After becoming a bit tired of the status quo the four decided to put their brains together to make music that they wanted to hear which will be available for all you to hear in the not too distant future. Untill then sit tight and keep a grip.“
I like the 2 records they have on their MySpace page, they kind of sound like a rough and ready version of The Zutons, with Liam Gallagher on vocals. The band members certainly have a pedigree as individuals, but whether they’ll be able to make it work as team is yet to be seen. They’ve obviously all come together in the spirit of loving a certain type of music, and that comes through already. One to watch.
