Yes, final.
The many Eureka fans already missing recently departed Nathan Stark got a nice surprise on last night’s “Show Me the Mummy.” Actor Ed Quinn‘s character, who unexpectedly and shockingly died — for real — on the previous episode “I Do Over,” returned briefly, albeit only in the form of a holographic projection.
It turns out Nathan’s wedding gift to his bride-to-be for the second time, Allison Blake, was a man-made logic-diamond necklace programmed to express his deep and eternal love for her. How sad was it when she “played” the message at the very end of the episode? I’ll admit I teared up.
No matter how much we Stark fans might wish otherwise, however, it seems Nathan really is dead, or at least as much as a character can be on a sci-fi series like Eureka.
The reason is the typical contractual one. According to EUREKA unscripted, a blog published by the show’s writers, Quinn was only signed for five episodes this season, and the fifth one was “Show Me the Mummy.”
The site also notes that although it’s not writ in stone that Nathan/Ed will never return to the show, “there are currently no plans.” *sigh* Maybe someone should start a Bring Nathan Back fan campaign or something…
For the time being, “enjoy” the clip below of still mourning Allison as she watches her departed fiancé’s holographic image declare its human counterpart’s great love for her. Don’t forget to grab a tissue first, too.
