Thanks to Tom O’Neil over at Gold Derby keeping one step ahead of the TV academy in reporting the Emmy contenders, we’re feeling pretty good about Showtime’s presence in this year’s Emmy race.

Mary-Kate Olsen may not have made the Emmy’s Top 10 list for her guest performance on Weeds (boo!) but Mary-Louise Parker‘s devil-may-care Nancy put her in contention for best comedic actress. Elizabeth Perkins‘ and Justin Kirk scored spots on the supporting actress/actor lists, even though Kevin Nealon was shut out. Apparently foot porn trumps banjo ditties about bong hits.
Also in the mix:
- David Duchovny for his turn as aptly named Hank Moody on Californication
- Peter O’Toole for his masterful portrayal of the Pope on The Tudors (no love for Jonathan Rhys Meyers or Natalie Dormer, though. They were robbed, I say. Robbed!)
- Michael C. Hall (natch) for his lead role on Dexter, and Keith Carradine for his guest appearance as Agent Lundy on Dexter
- And the series entries we reported earlier: Weeds, Dexter and The Tudors.
Official nominations (about half the number on the short list) will be released from the TV academy July 17.
