William H. Macy has some A-List company in Showtime’s new drama pilot, Shameless.
Emmy Rossum (Phantom of the Opera, The Day After Tomorrow) has joined the cast as Fiona, the daughter who holds the Gallagher family together in spite of her dad’s (Macy) alcoholism, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Allison Janney (The West Wing) will play a recurring role that could blossom into a love interest opposite Macy.
Justin Chatwin, who starred with Rossum in Dragonball Evolution, will join the project as Steve, a car thief who falls for Fiona.
Emmy winnerJohn Wells will produce the hour-long pilot, which reunites him with Janney, with whom he worked on The West Wing. He’ll be joined by the U.K. series’ original creator Paul Abbott.
Based on Abbott’s successful British series by the same name, Shameless revolves around the Gallaghers, a working-class Chicago family struggling to get by in the recession. With her mom out of the picture, 18-year-old Fiona tries her best to keep her five younger brothers and sisters out of trouble, a task that usually proves impossible.
The pilot is shooting this winter.
