Although sexuality shouldn’t be a big deal in these enlightened times, when it’s right there in front of your face, exhibited quite spectacularly, then it’s obviously going to draw attention. And if you’re La Roux’s Elly Jackson that means having lesbian fans throwing their bras at you on stage and then standing there topless hoping you’ll notice them. Nice work if you can get it.

There has been a lot of speculation as to whether Jackson, La Roux’s singer and the one of the duo who isn’t afraid to show their face, is gay. If you have seen her either in one of La Roux’s music videos or in photos then it’s easy to see why. No one should be judged on looks but her alternative and slightly butch look does beg the question.
However, Jackson isn’t gay but knew all along her look would attract a lesbian fan base to La Roux. According to Digital Spy she told Heat magazine:
“It’s the fact that they think I want their bras – that’s what’s weird about it. One girl in Toronto stood there for ages with her boobs out. Everyone just thinks I’m a raging lesbian and I want to see everyone’s boobs. Sorry, I’m not.”
“I knew that was going to happen. I’m not bothered by it. It was obvious that was what a lot of my fan base would be. I don’t care who comes to the gigs or who likes the music, as long as it’s for the music and not because they fancy you. That’s a sh*t reason to come to a gig.”
Spot on. Jackson’s basically saying anyone can come to a La Roux gig but she’d rather they came because they like the music rather than just to try and get her to notice them. And the fact she isn’t actually gay would mean there’s more chance of her noticing a guy in the crowd, especially I suppose if he whipped off a bra and stood with with man boobs on display for the duration.
I might have to try that one.
