Today’s featured DVD in Jane’s September Contest Slam is Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Vol. 1.
THE DVD: This is one of the many cross-media offerings these days, a cartoon adaptation of a strategy game from Sega Toys and Spin Master. Dan Kuso and his five cyber friends were playing Bakugan when game cards fell from the sky. Using a combo of cards and special marbles that turn into monsters, the team fights duels and wins points.
Dan and his buddies figure out that Bakugan monsters have lives in the dimension of Vestroia. But the mysterious gamer Masquerade is destroying the monsters they defeat by sending them to the Doom Dimension.

My son and I have been watching this on Cartoon Network, and we both agree it’s a cross between Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! To me, Dan looks like a lot of the other anime characters on TV — spiky hair, headband, awesome moves.
If you have fans of anime or the original Bakugan game in your life, they’ll probably love this DVD, which includes 5 episodes: The Battle Begins, The Masquerade Ball, A Feud between Friends, Dan and Drago, and Runo Rules! The DVD Also includes an exclusive trading card.

During the last part of summer, this show came on at 7am and my 6 yr. old son got up before everyone else and every morning I would sit and watch it with him. I didn’t really like Bakugan, Pokemon are enough, but I made it a point to try and look interested in it. Now he’s gone all day at school, and wouldn’t this dvd be a nice surprise?
