Give it up for Dexter. Our fave series about a serial killer you hate to love just got some sweet kudos from people who take their TV very seriously: The Peabody Awards committee.
“With a premise that questions our fondness for avenging heroes – a serial killer who channels his dark urges into police forensics and the killing of other sociopaths – this Showtime series is a masterful psychological thriller and a complex and ambiguous meditation on morality,” the awards announcement said.

Dexter was one of 35 shows chosen out of about 1,000 entries. Other winners in the entertainment category included NBC’s 30 Rock, NBC’s Project Runway and AMC’s Mad Men, all of which we at Showtimefan HQ consider excellent TV (That said, you know Showtime series are tops in our book.)
For more info on the winners, read the full Peabody Awards list.
The awards will be presented on June 16 in a ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York . NBC news anchor Brian Williams will MC the event.
The winners are chosen by a 16-member board made up of TV critics, industry executives and experts in culture and the arts. It chooses the winner after screening the entries for University of Georgia faculty, students and staff.
