When Dexter returns to Showtime this Sunday, we’ll find Dex in a whole new world: Suburbia. Can he hack it as a new dad and all-around family man? We have reason to doubt. Read on for five reasons why we won’t be jealous of our favorite serial killer.

- He’s averaging 3 hours of sleep, at best. The new bambino, Harrison, won’t go down unless Dex sings to him, or drives him around the neighborhood, or rocks him to sleep.
- His perfect neighborhood gets vandalized — and the neighborhood watch is super vigilant, so his dark passenger needs to stay hidden.
- There’s a new guy in town who is even better than Dexter at this whole serial killer thing. The Trinity Killer (played by John Lithgow) is a lone wolf whose been murdering people and escaping detection for decades. After 30 years away, Trinity has returned to Miami and is recreating his first kills in the city.
- His sister is getting more action than he is. With the new baby at home and two big cases to work at Miami Metro, Dex doesn’t have much time to get down and dirty with Rita. Deb, meanwhile, is happily shacked up with Anton … until FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy waltzes back into the station, and back into her heart.
- He has too many close calls. In the first three episodes of Season 4, Dex manages two kills. He nearly gets caught both times, due to sloppy execution or interruptions from home and work. Careful, Dex! You’re starting to make us think you can’t “have it all.”
Season 4 of Dexter premieres this Sunday, September 27, 2009, at 9 p.m. Eastern.
