Dexter Season 3, episode 11: “I Had a Dream”
Air date: December 7, 2008 on Showtime
Dex fights to get out of the speeding car’s trunk. He imagines Harry, who says he’s proud of Dexter for wanting to have a friend and a normal life. That encouragement gives Dex the strength to free himself from his bonds.
The trunk opens and he punches the person there, who turns out to be Matsuka, flanked by Quinn, Angel and the rest of his buddies. It’s his bachelor’s party.
Miguel arrives a little later than the rest, dropped off by his brother, Ramon. As Miguel gives his best man speech about trust and friendship, Dex plots how he’s going to kill his best friend.

The next morning, Dex is hung over and late for work when Rita comes over with bagels – to “soak up the alcohol.” She says Syl kicked out Miguel. Then she pulls out an hour-by-hour schedule of the wedding day to go over with him.
At work, everyone’s hung over. Deb’s mad at Vince for not inviting him to the party. Angel lowers the lights and reviews where they are on the two murder cases. He says Anton’s coming in today to give a statement.
In her office, Maria reviews her tape of the interview with the bartender who gave Ellen Wolf the booty call. She compares Miguel’s car registration to the bartender’s description of the car he saw that night. They match. She calls Miguel, saying they need to talk about what happened with Syl the other night.
Barbara brings hang over food to Angel. Dex continues to fantasize about killing Miguel. Deb comes in and shares her fears about talking to Anton. Dex makes a crack about Harry, to which Deb asks why Dex is so bitter toward their dad. He lets slip that Harry cheated. Deb can’t believe it.
Anton is there. He doesn’t take anyone but Deb to take his statement. They talk. He looks at the paperwork. These words don’t really say what happened to me, Anton says. He could hear the blade cut into him and himself, screaming, as though it was someone else.
Vince goes through the fridge, pulls out a popsicle. He asks Angel about running a background check on Tammy, the woman who runs the bachelor-party service. They had sex, spent the night talking to each other, and now Vince is worried she’s nuts because she really likes him.
Dex tails Miguel, who is now staying at a five-star hotel.
Deb and Quinn walk the crime scene. She asks him about his family, where his money came from. They get a call from Batista but there’s no reception in the place. Deb realizes that means George King used the pay phone nearby.
Maria and Miguel are together. He comes on strong as they make dinner. She says she left some beer in the car, goes to get it but takes his keys too and swabs his car for evidence.
Dex watches from the street and thinks “Miguel probably thinks he’s getting luck. Looks like he’s getting screwed.” When Miguel leaves, his car alert goes off that the trunk door is open. He glowers at Maria’s house. Don’t go there, Dex thinks.
The next day, Maria comes to him to run the fibers. He reminds her that she gave him a hard time last time he did forensics work she reamed him out. But he eventually agrees and she tells him he’s the best.
At the hotel, Miguel’s computer beeps. He gets an alert that Maria authorized the forensics search, and that it hit on Ellen Wolf.
Vince gets the results of his background check. The woman has anger-management issues, which makes her in his league after all.
Deb and Quinn follow the pay phone records and turn up a lead on George King doing some landscaping work for a client in Coconut Grove. He’s at the house and they chase him. He knifes Quinn in the face and runs.
Maria calls Dex into her office to talk about the forensics results. She shares her suspicions. He encourages her to take her time thinking about this. Dex wants her to, so he can murder Miguel and pin it on George King, who escaped from Deb and Quinn.
Deb and Dex talk about Harry and his affair with his CI. Deb decides not to bring Anton to the wedding. Dex tells her she’s nothing like Harry, when she makes comparisons between her behavior with Anton. Then Dex asks her to be his best man, since she’s so loyal and trustworthy. Later, Deb asks the records clerk to pull paper for her on Harry’s CIs.
Miguel and Ramon are out at the bar, buying Dex time to case his hotel room. In the room, Dex discovers hardware store materials – Miguel’s planning another kill, that’s why he’s at the bar, getting Ramon so drunk he’ll pass out and leave Miguel with an alibi.
Later, we see Miguel pick the lock at Maria’s house. Her bedroom is empty. Her answering machine light is on, and he discovers Dex leaving a message to meet Maria at a diner to talk about the evidence against Miguel. When Miguel turns around, there’s Dex and his wicked syringe.
Miguel wakes to find himself the subject of Dexter’s ritual. He pleads that he knows, he crossed the line. Miguel tries to manipulate Dex, saying he’s the only one who really knows Dexter. Dex counters that he’s killed his own brother. Oh, and he killed Miguel’s brother, too. Miguel begs for forgiveness, then screams at Dex that he’s a little freak and if he kills Dexter it won’t end there. Dex, undeterred, wraps a cord around Miguel’s neck. He strangles Miguel, thinking “Adios, amigo.”
