CSI: Vegas – Episode 8.08: “You Kill Me” Discussion Points

After the dramatic episode last week and Sara’s leaving, the lab rats took center stage this week to do mental investigations. (I guess it was a slow week for real crime in Vegas…)

csi-lv-s7_labtechs_001.jpg

After organizing the lab rats to try to figure out the imaginary crimes he invented, it was revealed that it was all to help Hodges develop his own game called Lab Rats.

Interestingly, Grissom, who refused to discuss his feelings with anyone else, chose to play the game with Hodgens and opened up a bit with him about Sara.

What do you think about this week’s episode? Here are some questions to get the discussion started, but please, don’t limit your comments to these:

  1. Was it surprising to you that Grissom didn’t open up to anyone in the lab about Sara when they made the offer?
  2. Why do you suppose that Grissom let Hodges talk to him more openly about Sara than any of the others?
  3. Did you enjoy the lighthearted feeling of this week’s episode after the sadness of last week’s?
  4. Once again, Hodges takes the lead with the other lab rats, to organize theoretical investigation (like he did with the miniature killer.) Do you like the Hodges character?
  5. Do you think there would be a market for a game like “Lab Rats”?
  6. Hodges is obviously a CSI-wannabe. Do you think Hodges will ever leave the confines fo the lab to be a CSI for real?

Let’s get a discussion going. Leave a comment to share your thoughts! I want to hear what you think!

    :O

Hey, I love my CSI, but I could never strike-break against the poor writers. Them’s people too. :p

On Hodges again though, I think another episode that is focused around his character in the light of “Fannysmackin’” would be nice. That re-ran last night, I forgot how much I enjoyed it. :p

I really enjoyed this episode! I thought the lighthearted approach was great after the drudge of SaraDrama we’ve been subjected to.

As for labrat-turned-csi, I’d much prefer Wendy to take that route (as was hinted) than Hodges. I like Hodges, but I think he fits where he is now. I’m afraid moving him to the field would either make him tedious or change him too much.

Besides, they need a female CSI to replace Sara, so either they transfer Veronica to the night shift, have Wendy become a CSI, or bring in someone else. While I don’t hate Veronica, I’d prefer Wendy any day of the week.

Hey, with the writers’ strike, Scott, maybe you should help them out with future episodes! ;-)

It certainly would be a change, eh? :p I think the best way to go about it is perhaps have Hodges make a key discovery in the field to boost his confidence. Maybe save a life instead, or catch a criminal with some brawn instead of brain if you catch my drift. ;\ Would certainly boost his insane ego even higher; send him bragging around the lab about how he thinks Grissom will promote him soon, but simply have Grissom keep him stuck in the lab after about half a season’s field work for Hodges.

Yes, I can see it now…

    “But… But…”

“But Hodges, you’re a FANTASTIC trace technician. We’d have no one to replace you. You know how valuable you are to the team.”

“Yeah… Yeah, I am the greatest trace technician in the lab. Maybe EVER. I guess I could make the sacrifice…”

    Scott,

I was thinking of the Greg Sanders example when I asked. I think it would be hysterically funny to see Hodges try to go out in the field, away from his secure little lab. I wonder if they’ll decide to ever do that with his character?

    1. Was it surprising to you that Grissom didn’t open up to anyone in the lab about Sara when they made the offer?

No. Grissom is a shut-out character who sets himself apart. He would not talk to anyone, especially those who he knows are simply using ploys to try to crack his impenetrable wall of emotionlessness.

    2. Why do you suppose that Grissom let Hodges talk to him more openly about Sara than any of the others?

Hodges didn’t go about it so off-handidly, he simply asked Grissom straight out. Besides, Grissom and Hodges both tend to be loners, and Hodges has a similar problem with Wendy.

    3. Did you enjoy the lighthearted feeling of this week’s episode after the sadness of last week’s?

Yeah, I enjoyed it period. It was a nice change up, and, dare I say, really fun.

    4. Once again, Hodges takes the lead with the other lab rats, to organize theoretical investigation (like he did with the miniature killer.) Do you like the Hodges character?

Definitely. “Lab Rats” the episode was wicked, and Hodges deserves his spot in the pantheon of CSI main characters.

    5. Do you think there would be a market for a game like “Lab Rats”?

Yeah, I would totally buy it, and so would the millions of other CSI fans!

    6. Hodges is obviously a CSI-wannabe. Do you think Hodges will ever leave the confines of the lab to be a CSI for real?

    See previous Greg Sanders scenario.

I did not like the lightheartedness of this week’s episode~I’m still mourning the loss of Sara, & feel her departure should be given more attention~Didn’t any of the other CSI’s even MISS Sara at all? Or are the powers that be really bitter about Jorja leaving, & don’t want to even give her character anymore air time? It’s weird that Grissom would even want to play ANY games after losing his love. The show was interesting, & the game was a good idea, but the timing was really off. I do find the Hodges character interesting comic relief: He’s a real ass-kisser CSI wannabe that should never be allowed to leave the lab…that’s part of the fun of his character.
