The show began with the police responding to a hostage situation involving a juvenile probation officer. As soon as the police started to surround the house, the body of the probation officer came falling out of the second story window with a gunshot wound to his chest. Horatio concluded that the PO’s body had been thrown from the window was a diversionary tactic to allow the perp to escape.

We got to see the return of Calleigh’s old beau, Jake as a detective in this episode too. I wonder if he’ll become a regular this season.

When the CSIs started investigating the crime scene, Eric Delko brought a very cool electrostatic dust lifter to snag a very well defined shoeprint from the PO’s floor. Calleigh then called the PO’s “clients” into the station to question them and in so doing, got each of their shoeprints.
One young man, Dillon, had a shoeprint that was an exact match to the one lifted at the crime scene. That made him the primary suspect.
Dillon told Calleigh that he had been caught by the PO in the daughter’s bedroom and the PO got understandably POed. ;-)
Dillon claimed to have never done anything violent and that his original crime was computer hacking. When they checked out his story, it was all confirmed. Dillon wasn’t the perp.
Then, in an interesting turn of events, Natalia went to the gun range to practice her target shooting. Lo and behold, Ryan Wolfe was working there. After each of them got over their surprise, Rayn loaded a pistol for Natalia to use for practice. He told her that as part of his job, he was required to load all firearms used at the range.
Natalia fired her practice shots and missed 14 out of 15 shots. She asked Ryan not to tell anyone how bad she shoots.
Ryan asked her not to tell anyone that he worked there. They agreed it was a deal. LOL!
The next suspect they focused on was a 16-year-old named Kyle Harmon. The PO had been alerted to a violation in Kyle’s probation by the ankle monitor he was required to wear. That meant that Kyle would have to go back to jail. That’s motive alright…
The cool thing was that since Kyle had been incarcerated on an alcohol-related offense the ankle monitor could tell if he drank any alcohol. The monitor could detect ethinol vapors on Kyle’s skin after he had ingested alcohol. Then, the monitor sent the information to the PO’s Blackberry. Very cool.
While Kyle was in the station, Horatio noticed him and asked him when he was born. Horatio knew from Kyle’s reords that he had been in foster care for some time. Horatio then asked Yelina Salas who is now a private investigator to find out about Kyle.

The CSIs went to check out the escape boat. They find a bullet casing that they processed for a fingerprint. They also find drugs hidden in the engine compartment. They trace the boat’s registration to the cafe where Kyle works. Another guy on probation with the same PO works there too. His name is Rick Bates and he’s known to drive the boat fairly often.

It seems that the PO had caught him dealing drugs so Rick would have to go back to jail too. Another person with motive.
In the mean time, Yelina went to see Kyle’s foster father. The guy was a total loser and obviously didn’t care at all about Kyle. He said that Kyle had left and that he had put Kyle’s belongings in a barrel. Yelina took the paperwork from the barrel and showed everything to Horatio.

Kyle’s mother’s name had been Julia Eberle. Horatio said that he knew her. Then Horatio asked who was listed as Kyle’s father and the name was John Walden. He said he had once known him too.
Then Calleigh used another very cool thing to check the contents of the PO’s Blackberry. All she did was place the Blackberry on a screen and graphically, all its contents were displayed and could be visually manipulated. Wow! I want one of those!
Then the wife of a prison guard was kidnapped and the kidnapper asked for a strange amount of money. The guard was told to turn over $126,000 in exchange for the wife. Horatio realized that it had been Kyle that had done the kidnapping and told the team to use the GPS in the ankle monitor to find Kyle.

When they found the ankle monitor, Kyle had removed it from his leg and had fled. The wife was ok. It was obvious to Horatio that the plan for the kidnapping had not been Kyle’s. He knew it had to be Rick’s plan.

When they confronted Rick, it seems that the guard had helped Rick hide the proceeds from drug dealing and once Rick was released, he wanted half the money back from the guard. He had blackmailed Kyle to do the dirty work for him and kidnap the guard’s wife.
Rick denied everything (of course) but they traced the bullet casing from the boat to Rick by finding Ryan’s fingerprint on the casing. That meant that Rick had stolen the gun from the range where Ryan worked and had loaded it for him. They found video from the security cameras to prove it and Rick was busted.
Rick confessed to the whole thing with the PO.
Horatio had the epithelial cells from the ankle monitor compared to his own DNA and found that Kyle was actually his son. He explained to Yelina that John Walden had been his cover name when he had done some special assignments. He hadn’t known that Julia had been pregnant.
When Horatio found out that Kyle was being chased by the coast guard, he contacted the commander and requested that they stand down. They arrested Kyle peacefully and Horatio talked to him when they were taking him from the boat. He had a chance to tell Kyle that he was his father, but didn’t.

Now that Horatio knows that he has a son, do you think he’ll get involved with his life? Do you think he will tell Kyle that he’s his father? Do you think Kyle will accept him? Leave a comment to share your thoughts.

What’s the song called in the end when kyle tried to escape?
I pretty much love eric delko
what is the name of the actor of horatio’s son ??
What’s up with Tripp in a uniform?
He was a detective before so I’m guessing that it IS a promotion. They’ve also said that it is a promotion in the spoilers that came out about this episode.
Is Seargent a promotion from his former position? I know nothing about police heirarchy, but I thought wearing a tie implied a higher position than a uniform?
He passed his Seargent’s exam and was promoted. He said that in the begining of the episode when he was talking to Jake.
Jill & Sergio: I actually was wondering the same thing. They didn’t give us an explanation in this episode, but I’m hoping we find out what’s up in the next one. Sorry not to have an answer for you.
