Count 'em: 4 Grammy noms for Giacchino

Mark my words: composer Michael Giacchino is the next John Williams. I follow the world of film scores closely, and no other composer currently on the radar shows the kind of versatility that Giacchino does.

Michael Giacchino, in case you’re unaware, is the masterful composer who has created every second of music heard on Lost. He works with J.J. Abrams on everything he does, having composed for Alias, Fringe, and Abrams’ big-screen movies. He’s also a regular go-to guy for Pixar, and his star is rising, with high profile jobs on several other recent projects as well.

Giacchino has scored four nods in the just-announced Grammy Award nominations, including two in the “Best Score Soundtrack Album” category, for his scores for Star Trek and Up. He’ll face off against Alexandre Desplat for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Nicholas Hooper for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Danny Elfman for Milk. Giacchino was also nominated for Best Instrumental Composition for his track “Married Life” from Up, and Best Instrumental Arrangement for his track “Up With End Credits,” also from Up.

The Grammy winners will be awarded at the all-star Awards ceremony on January 31st (just 2 days before the start of Lost Season 6!).
