A cool idea for your Friday, Tudors fans: What if your favorite tyrant king became a superhero?
MTV’s film bloggers tell us Sir Ian McKellan won’t be part of X-Men Origins: Magneto, even though he’s played the character in every installment of the franchise thus far.
Magneto needs to be recast, and MTV’s “Secret Identity” suggests five hot actors who could do the complex villain justice. Tudors’ star Jonathan Rhys Meyers made the list, thanks to his calculating turn as a gold-digging tennis pro in Woody Allen’s Match Point.
Even more telling, MTV’s Josh Wigler writes, is Meyers performance as King Henry VIII:
“He’s often quite genial behind closed doors, but he’s equally ready to throw down the gauntlet to protect and further his own agenda. As the eventual founder of the Brotherhood of Mutants, Magneto can relate to that side of Henry. Going from the ruthless historical king to hopeful leader of mutantkind wouldn’t be much of a stretch for Meyers.”
What do you think? With filming of The Tudors‘ final season behind him, Meyers will need a new project. Do you like him for Professor Xavier’s nemesis? We think it’s a great idea, in part because The Tudors has shown us JRM knows how to rock a cape.

He can certainly pull it off. And X-Men is a well-received series. Don’t know if he’s interested in that type of role, tho
