I’ve been one of the throng of Led Zeppelin fans pleading with the band to reunite for a full world tour over the past year, but I’m not sure I wanted this to happen. It’s been reported that Led Zeppelin could be reforming, but without Robert Plant being a part of it.

The Sun newspaper claimed over the weekend that the rest of the band, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham are all completely committed to heading out on the road again, and have run out of patience with singer Robert Plant over his unwillingness to also sign on the dotted line.
The three have been rehearsing in a London studio and using stand-in singers to mask Plant’s no-show. One American singer has impressed so much that Page, Jones, and Bonham are said to be considering going on tour without Plant, and using the new guy instead.
A source said:
“Jimmy, Jason and John are determined a tour will go ahead next year. They’ve been rehearsing frequently in London and the band is really gelling.”
“There’s an American guy who has been standing in for Robert regularly and doing a great job. Obviously they want the original front man to join them on the road but he still won’t commit.”
“They will be finalising plans for shows over the next couple of months and will tell Robert that if he doesn’t want to be involved they will go ahead without him.”
Which is an ultimatum if I’m not mistaken. That seems harsh to say the least as while Plant’s refusal to reunite Led Zeppelin is annoying fans around the world, me included, he still deserves the utmost respect from us all. And, to be honest, I really can’t imagine led Zeppelin without him.
The Sun claims that the new line-up, without Plant, would still sell out arenas around the world, but I’m not so sure. I really don’t think I’d go and see them if Plant was missing as it just wouldn’t feel right. Look at Queen without Freddie Mercury: no disrespect to Paul Rodgers but he just isn’t the same.
I could probably cope with Bonham being replaced (especially if Dave Grohl stepped in), and I wouldn’t even mind John Paul Jones not being present, but Robert Plant and Jimmy Page are musts. If either of them isn’t in the group, it stops being Led Zeppelin and just becomes a poor shadow of a legendary British rock band instead.

Yes, as already mentioned, it wouldn’t be “Led Zeppelin’ without Robert, but
as agin mentioned previously, we’d have a chance to see the rest of them
‘before it’s too late!
A shame how Robert feels, but if he doesn’t feel into doing this then he
wouldn’t be any good onstage-wouldn’t put his ‘all’ into it.
If Plant isn’t interested, then why not have another concert tour without him? At least we get to see Page do his thing once more before it’s too late…
