Chris Weitz: "I’ll devote myself to New Moon"

chris-weitz-golden-compass If you’re a “Twilight” fan, you know by now that Chris Weitz is taking over the “New Moon” directing role from Catherine Hardwicke, who’s out of the project. Weitz is well aware of the huge fan base and posted a note on author Stephenie Meyer’s Web site, saying:

“When I saw the film of Twilight, I was alternately entranced and left hungry for more. I was also struck by the extraordinary passion for the characters, story and theme that was evident in the people sitting in the seats around me. My job is to live up to that devotion.”

Weitz adds, “…I will devote myself to making the very best and most faithful version of ‘New Moon’ that can be brought to the screen. To those who doubt that as a male director I can capture Bella’s experience, I can only say that emotion is universal and that my work has often involved working with some of the most talented actresses in the world … I promise to remain responsive to your hopes and fears.”

This is really cool that he understands the whole “Twilight” fever, and is promising to treat the work thoughtfully and respect the fans’ devotion.

What do you think? Will Chris Weitz do a good job with “New Moon”?

Oh my i am so excited for new moon and i think that dakota Fanning should not play in new moon as jane.I believe that she is a very talented young girl and very down to earth but if you put her in the movie it could ruin it. I have read new moon and i believe it said that Jane is a dark haired, pale, italian like girl. I would appreciate it very much Mr.Weitz if you would please contact me at this email address

oh please chris weitz! please please please make New Moon a great movie! Twilight sucked big time.. I’m glad you’re going to be directing New Moon. And also try not to make the characters feel awkward.. in Twilight, the chemistry between Edward & Bella was lacking big time!

okay…so im a big fan of the twilight saga…obsessed really :P i’ve seen the movie twilight like 5 or 6 times purely because it was twilight, not because it was good. I counted 30+ things that were wrong or missing in the movie, and so many things were just done differently! I was so dissapointed. Then I heard there’s going to be a new director, and I thought, that this might make the New Moon movie better. But now I’m not convinced. I don’t think dakota fanning should play Jane for one, and I heard rumours about Vanessa Hudgens being involved with the movie? Please please don’t do that….it will ruin the movie….I have nothing against these two actors, both very talented, but I dont think they would be best for the twilight series. Also, dont cut out stuff in this movie! leave things the way they were explained in the book. I also don’t know if showing edward and like where he is and what he’s doing while he’s away from Bella is the best idea for the movie. I think the best thing to do, is to try to be as accurate to the book as possible. I would hate to see the second movie be a disspointment too. Of course these are all personal thoughts, but I am a fan, and I have friends that share the same thoughts as I do. I’m positive that there’s A LOT of twilight fans out there that feel the same way I do, especially with the whole point of keeping it like the book. I hope you take my thoughts into consideration.
    Thanks you for reading

Mr. Director, please reconsider your choice on Michael Copon as Jacob. If you must replace Taylor as Jacob, please consider casting Steven Strait instead. He’s taller than Rob and he looks the part of Jacob. Michael looks too old to play Jacob and he is a worse actor. Lot of fans are disappointed about Taylor being replace because you are replacing him with a worse actor. You need to replace him with a better actor like Steven Strait. Please watch Steven Strait on The Covenant and you’ll see why he should be cast as Jacob.
