Chris Weitz: "I’ll devote myself to New Moon"

chris-weitz-golden-compass If you’re a “Twilight” fan, you know by now that Chris Weitz is taking over the “New Moon” directing role from Catherine Hardwicke, who’s out of the project. Weitz is well aware of the huge fan base and posted a note on author Stephenie Meyer’s Web site, saying:

“When I saw the film of Twilight, I was alternately entranced and left hungry for more. I was also struck by the extraordinary passion for the characters, story and theme that was evident in the people sitting in the seats around me. My job is to live up to that devotion.”

Weitz adds, “…I will devote myself to making the very best and most faithful version of ‘New Moon’ that can be brought to the screen. To those who doubt that as a male director I can capture Bella’s experience, I can only say that emotion is universal and that my work has often involved working with some of the most talented actresses in the world … I promise to remain responsive to your hopes and fears.”

Read Weitz’ full note here. Join our “New Moon” casting discussion here.

This is really cool that he understands the whole “Twilight” fever, and is promising to treat the work thoughtfully and respect the fans’ devotion.

What do you think? Will Chris Weitz do a good job with “New Moon”?

    hey!!!
ok i love new moonx100000000000000000 it is amazing…..keep the same characters throughout the movie series or you will run into the same mistakes as the prince and me series where people lose intrest cuz they cant follow….but im not trying to b a critic…..i was just going to say i think that you should try to get the actors and actresses to do some community work….as lame as it mite seem it would get the movies great plublicity and they would have to refer to TAYLOR LAUTNER FROM THE TWILIGHT SAGA instead of just plain taylor lautner…..it would also get in a good name instead of what miley cyrus is going thru right now with her club and pole days….also working in teen will get you more viewers cuz they see that the people relate to kids like them and would assume the movies would reflect that…which they do last but not least international could be key to an expansion of audience…..
hope this helps you but if you need more they asked for my email but if that doesnt work comment and i can get bak to you like that
    sincerely
    alexis
sorry for the spelling errors im a texter constantly and its second nature;)

ps taylor lautner is the hottest man alive do NOT take him out of the movie for anything!

Hello, i am hoping that some one reads this from summit or you mr. director, Chris Weitz. I am huge and of the twilight books, and an even bigger fan of the movies.

My older sister is a costume designer, who specializes in Victorian and period wedding dresses. she had the anne rice novels memorized at age 13, and could tell you how many button holes belong on a frock coat.

I think that to truly do justice to “ALice’s” design of Bella’s wedding dress she is your ticket. her designer idol is the woman who creates the dresses, gowns and period work for tim burton

for sketches, renderings, and photos of her work please email me @ phycokic507@yahoo.com

you will not be disappointed !!!!!!

mr weitz i am so sorry to tell you this but you just ruined the third movie
you made edward ask bella to marry him. he does that in the middle of the third one. but tell the fourth director to not cut anything out because if he does that will ruin the whole series because there is so much that happens in the third and fourth. i mean they get married in the fourth book. and have a baby in the fourth book, and bella becomes a vampire in the fourth book. please do not take this offensively but it was a good ending but if you could have thought of a better ending it would have been more suitiable. (mainly for the ones who read the book before seeing the movie.
    sincerely twilight fan

Hey hey!! Very xcited about the next movie (New Moon), however i am making comment/suggestion on Breaking Dawn. I know you get heaps but please read on…. There is a song that will suit Breaking Dawn perfectly in the background when it comes time to change Bella from Human Vampire. Everytime i listen to this Band i am reminded of Twilight. The song in particular is “Poison Girl” by H.I.M (Snake crawls straight into her heart – Poison)
    Other songs that would work so well with twilight (by H.I.M) are;
Join Me in Death – Bella is anxious to be with Edward in “Death”
Right Here in my Arms – Expresses the passion Bella and Edward have for each other!
The Sacrament – All these songs may sound dark or depressing but what Bella and Edward go through is hard and these songs just help portray the meaning. Have a listen and see if you get a connection as well. I am not crazy but i cant help listening to these songs and thinking about Twilight!

    Dear Mr. Weitz,
I’m a huge fan of the Twilight Saga. And as you are the director of new moon you must please hear me out. I speak in behalf of all teenagers in India. We are all dying to watch the movie but we can’t because Sadly in india the Twilight saga was never aired/released in the Indian theatres. All fantasy, romance & fiction movies are great hits in our country like Harry Potter ,Narnia, Spiderman etc. Twilight is in extremely popular demand in India too(both the books and the movies) . It has a major fan following here and I’d appreciate it if it would be released in India .And I guarantee that it would be a massive hit and make the top charts if it releases here.

I think Katy Perry’s song “Thinking of You” is the perfect song for the New Moon love triangle.

I have been trying my best to contact somebody who i can make this suggestion to but still no like so here goes a shot. for the New Moon movie i think that a wonderfull song that is very fitting to be included in the movie is “Birds and Boats” by Gregory and the Hawk. Im sure if you take a listen to this song you will agree with me that it is very fitting for when Edward “leaves” Bella. Thank you for your time

    Hi.
    This message is for director Chris Weitz;
although I’m not certain that he’ll ever see this.
I have written and recorded a song which I think would be appropriate for the Eclipse movie. I would like to send it to Mr. Weitz, but I can’t find a postal address. Where can I send it?
If you would like to hear / ask about my song, please contact me via email: sexysoulgoddess@hotmail.com

    Mr. Director:
My friends talked me into doing this. They think that if you’re directing Breaking Dawn (I don’t want to rush you) that you should let me audition for Renesmee. My friends think that I fit a perfect description. I’m really short (shortest in my grade) I have big brown eyes (My friends say that they sometimes fall into them) And I’ve had acting experiences. Please e-mail me back at funkygirl445@yahoo.com. I can send a picture of myself so you could see exactly what I look like. Thank you!

    Hello Mr Weitz
I realize that you may be receiving quite a bit of mail and unsolicited feedback with your undertaking as the new Director of New Moon, I apologise in advance that I am another person offering my opinion.
I have read all books in the series by Stephanie Meyer, as well as saw the first film directed by Catherine Hardwicke. Only recently since the disc release on blue-ray did I take the time to watch the Extras with pre and post production, casting, etc and the relationship between then Director, Catherine Hardwicke and Stephanie Meyer. It seemed that so many of the pivotal and character building elements of the book were omitted at final reel, that the characters felt emotionally vacant in some areas and the climax that should have been felt by the audience (like in each book) did not make it to the screen – all for the sake of “keeping with the action pace of the film”. There is great anticipation in the sequel movie trumping the first with greater understanding, clearer story direction, greater character awareness and the attention to detail of the story. A tough audience to please, but if the books are becoming much more popular and more readers being converted to film eager film fans, the expectation at present, certainly felt by other readers of the series, is to be true to the book. I would hate to see the series be victim to the “who cares if the fans don’t like it.. we still get paid and promise to make the next one better” type of approach – I highly, highly doubt that the studio, the author and your reputation to bring this vision to life could even be questioned like this, I just hope you know that there are some very loyal and “hard core” Twilight series follwers that do not want to see New Moon be lumped into that category.
Thank you for taking the time.

    Regards
    Laine

You should consider putting Flyleaf’s song Sorrow in the movie some how. I just read the second book and that songs sounds like it would fit perfectly into New Moon.

It was very sad to see how the expectations of the movie failed the fans. I hope this film is able to portray the movie. Wish you the best of luck
You will need it after the let down of Twighlight

I THINK MR WEITZ WILL DO A FABULOUS JOB WITH NEW MOON. YOU CAN’T SAY SOMEONE ISN’T GOOD FOR THE JOB BASED ON THE ENDING OF THE GOLDEN COMPASS. I STILL THOUGHT THE MOVIE HAD MERIT.
I HOPE THAT THEY CAST UNKNOWN AS WLL IN NEW MOON. I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING BLOGS AND MY VOTE FOR ALEC IS FOR TEEN ACTOR WITH AN IMPRESSIVE REZ BUT NOT YET WELL KNOWN DO TO GEOGRAPHY. HE LIVES IN ONTARIO. ALEXANDER CONTI GETS MY VOTE AND THERE ARE SO MANY PULLING FOR HIM IN THE BLOGS. SO MR. WEITZ GIVE THIS LAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE AS WELL. ACTING SHOULD BE BORDER LESS.
