Bumbershoot report

Yesterday’s appearance by Lost writers Carlton Cuse, Edward Kitsis, and Adam Horowitz at Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival yielded precious little intel on Season 6. Pop Distillery has a full report on the event, but almost every bit of what was said by the three writers is stuff we’ve heard before. (Season 6 “won’t explain every last mystery,” Charlie will appear in Season 6, the show’s final shot is already planned, yadda yadda yadda.)

The one new piece of information I picked up on is this line: “Season 6 will have a fairly significant spiritual bent.” It’s unknown if this is verbatim from the writers or if Pop Distillery’s blogger was paraphrasing. Either way, it’s not exactly a bombshell, as the show’s always had spiritual overtones at its core, what with Jack’s rigid dependence on science and Locke’s desire to live on faith being one of the central conflicts the show is built on.

But it’s interesting to imagine where all this might be leading, now that we know that the conflict between Jacob and his nemesis has been brewing for such a long time, and looks as though it has plenty of spiritual overtones of its own.

One other note of interest was the mention that although the show’s writer/producers intend to wrap up their story this season with no more story to tell, Cuse speculated that Lost is “a powerful franchise, and Disney would be foolish not to capitalize on that.” This is just speculation on his part, of course, but it makes one wonder if Season 6 really will be the last time we ever get to venture to the island. Perhaps Disney may find new and clever ways of expanding the franchise sideways, outside of the main plotline and characters seen on the show?

Hmm.

I would passionately hate it if Disney decided to take license to make something else out of this franchise. Those bloody money-grubbing bastards aren’t satisfied with the billion dollars they make of people all around the world, that they need more? What an absolute joke Disney is. Selfish and greedy. Typical of the “American dream”. Leave the show with the credibility it has without trying to create a bunch of extra crap that every other Disney production has.
