Another Trio Joins 'Delta Blues' Pilot

The cast for TNT’s George Clooney-produced pilot Delta Blues is really filling up. Yet three more talented thespians have signed on since the last three cast members were added.

Celia Weston

The Hollywood Reporter identifies the newcomers as familiar Men in Trees and ER actor Abraham Benrubi, Hustle & Flow star DJ Qualls, and Celia Weston (pictured above) of the 1980s diner sitcom Alice.

Benrubi is all set to play one-eighth Chickasaw Sergeant J.C. Lightfoot, a Memphis detective who enjoys sharing slices of Native American wisdom with his colleagues, while Qualls will play a presently unnamed police officer whom Jason Lee’s (My Name Is Earl) lead character Dwight Hendricks mentors.

Last, but certainly not least, Weston will portray Hendricks’ mother and roommate, a role I was really, really hoping would go to Cagney & Lacey icon Tyne Daly, for no other reason than that I think she and Lee would make a terrific and convincing mom-grown son team. She must have been unavailable. Still, Weston will definitely do the character complete justice.

It seems all of the major roles for the Delta Blues pilot are cast now. So, the main work that remains is filming the episode and presenting the footage to TNT for the ultimate decision: pickup or no pickup.
