Well, well, well! The big winners in the comedy categories during last night’s 39th NAACP Image Awards ceremony were clearly TBS’ Tyler Perry’s House of Payne on the men’s side and CBS’ Ugly Betty on the women’s side.
Congratulations to the celebrated thespians, with an extra special shout-out for talented Vanessa Williams, who took home her second statuette in a row for her excellent and hilarious work on the CBS dramedy. All of the other awards shows keep overlooking her for some reason.
Just about everyone can probably agree that several of the victors, such as the aforementioned Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, definitely benefited from having an organization like the NAACP recognizing distinctive forms of entertainment. I don’t think I’ve ever read a kind word about Perry’s sitcom written by a television critic from the mainstream media.
I’ve only compiled a list below of the winners in the television comedy categories. Winners are listed first, in bold and with an asterisk at the end. To see a complete overview of all the winners in all the categories, visit The Envelope.
