Adele’s ‘Chasing Pavements’ Banned In US For Being A Gay Anthem?! – Sheer Madness

God Bless America

I love America, and the majority of the American people I have met both online and in real life. But, when I hear a story such as this, I can’t help but lose a bit of respect for the country and its inhabitants.

Chasing Pavements by Adele is an absolutely brilliant song, and deserves to be listened to by as many people as possible. It was her second single, but was the one which brought her to public recognition. And deservedly so, as both the song and video are fantastic.

But there was a slight problem over in the States with this song, namely that it was thought to be about turning gay, which it clearly isn’t. While most of us wouldn’t have a problem with a song about being gay, some US radio stations actually refused to play the song for that very reason.

According to the Daily Mail, Adele revealed the story at the Nationwide Mercury Awards ceremony. She not only recounted how it happened, but also completely denied the made-up claims over what the message in the song was.

“Some weirdo on the Net wrote that Chasing Pavements was about being gay, which isn’t true at all.”

“Because of that, some radio stations in the States wouldn’t play it. The guy wrote it on Urban Dictionary, which I’ve used for years and ‘chasing pavements’ was never on there before.”

The song is actually about one of Adele’s ex-boyfriends who she has since made up with. But that’s not even the point. The big thing for me is that American radio stations refused to play a song purely on the grounds it might have something to do with being gay.

America is probably about to elect a black man, in Barack Obama, as President, and he just beat a female to be the Democratic candidate. So while race and gender seem to be becoming less of an issue, sexuality is still way up there as being a hot topic which offends a certain section of American society. How sad is that?

??? I’m American, and I have never heard of the song, the term, or anything being “banned”.
If a radio station doesn’t want to play a certain song, that has nothing to do with America as a whole.
