The editors at Supernatural have put together a video Christmas card for the fans. Three clips from the next three episodes of Supernatural.
Here’s the vid and you’ll find the episode details and my comments behind the jump.
“Family Remains”
Air Date: January 15
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a house that appears to be haunted, but when an unsuspecting family moves in they find that it’s actually occupied by something much more sinister. Guest starring David Newsom and Helen Slater. “Family Remains” was written by Jeremy Carver and directed by Phil Sgriccia.
Cyn says: I’m expecting this one to be really creepy. From what I’ve seen, it’s a very dark, haunted house episode with lots of thrills and chills. Right now, this is my favorite of the next three.
“Criss Angel is a Douche Bag”
Air Date: January 22
Three aging magicians attend a magic conference and prove that they still have a few unbelievable tricks up their sleeves – but are they only illusions? Meanwhile Ruby (guest star Genevieve Cortese) tries to convince Sam (Jared Padalecki) to use a little magic of his own. Also starring Jensen Ackles as Dean and guest starring Barry Bostwick, Richard Libertini and John Rubinstein. “Criss Angel is a Douche Bag” was written by Julie Siege and directed by Robert Singer.
Cyn says: I’m amazed they haven’t been forced to change the title of this one! Great guest stars and an interesting plot but I’m not sold.
“After School Special”
Air Date: January 29
A mysterious death finds Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) returning to one of the high schools they briefly attended while traveling around the country with their dad. But flashbacks reveal that the short time they were at the school resulted in a dramatic effect on the future. Guest starring Colin Ford as “Young Sam” and Brock Kelly as “Young Dean.” “After School Special” was written by Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin and directed by Adam Kane.
Cyn says: I loved this when I first heard about it and I think Colin will knock it out of the park as usual as young Sam. What I don’t like is this new tendency toward making Dean look like a fool. The shorts were one thing but the headband and socks pushes it into lederhosen territory. More than that, I don’t like the way he bullies the kids in the clip. Time after time, we’ve seen him defending the little ones (as he surely defended Sam when he was small) so this just isn’t working for me.
What do you think?

I am really looking for a pure horror ep. To be scared crapless by SN it’s soo good ! I’m intrigued ny the magicians but it’s a little too short for know what it will be , but the title is totaly awsome ! I laughed my head off seeing Dean in shorts , why can’t we have more teachers like that ? He looks hot ! It seems in the season 4 they like that Dean be disguised . I can understand some do not like that , I find it very funny , maybe there is a reason behind all that . But for a change , I would like to see Sammy dressed up , too !
I don’t see it as dumbing down Dean, more like playing up the sterotype. The shorts, socks and headband, the power of the whistle, making the fat kid run laps… even the subtle gay marriage joke- it’s all gym teacher sterotypes.
Plus, how can younot laugh at Dean in that get up? it’s inpossible lol
I agree Colin Ford is going to knock this one out of the park like he did in AVSC.
FR looks freaky, can’t wait and CAIADB (awesome title) looks interesting too. For the next three eps it seems to be ‘spot the guest star’.
Love Emma
How weird of me is it to think that Sam looked completely hot in that Janitor uniform?…And, yeah, um Dean too….;D
Man… they look awesome. I so can’t wait to see young Sam and Young Dean again.
Thanks for putting this up.
I agree, Cyn, with your concern about Dean in “Afterschool”. These are the same new writers who gave us “Yellow Fever” and I hated how they treated Dean’s fears as some kind of slapstick farce. I don’t think they’ve mastered the distinction between humor vs. making a character the object of ridicule. Jensen will pull it off as usual but it bothers me that this characterization of Dean seems to be becoming a trend, at least with these guys.
I thought the whole thing with the headband and the socks was hilarious. Completely and utterly unrealistic, I teach and none of our gym teachers dress like that, but I still found it funny. I didn’t look at it like he was bullying the kids so much as playing the part. Playing to what they expect. You often have to put up a front when you are a teacher/sub to get kids to respect you, then you can tear away that mask and be nice and the person you really are, someone who cares about kids. There….that’s my soapbox, I’m reliquishing it now. LOL
