The cast of Lost is huge and sprawling, and at the end of Season 4, the Losties were spread out more than ever before. So before tonight’s Season 5 premier (yay!! finally!), refresh your memory of where everyone left off with this handy-dandy guide.
Jack Shephard
Last seen: stoned and standing over Locke’s corpse, and contemplating how to get the gang back together and back to the island. He and Ben will to try to make that dream a reality, asap.
Kate Austen
Last seen: playing house with little Aaron, and trying to keep the world from finding out she’s not really his mom. Secrets have a way of getting out…
Hugo “Hurley” Reyes
Last seen: escaping from the mental institute thanks to Sayid, for reasons not entirely clear. One thing is clear: he’s in danger, and Sayid means to protect him.
Sayid Jarrah
Last seen: killing Charles Widmore’s operatives as Ben’s assassin and prepping for a buddy cop road trip with Hurley. Methinks things will get worse for him before they get better.
Sun Kwon
Last seen: an international woman of mystery bent on revenge against her father and another unnamed player she holds responsible for Jin’s death (my guess: Ben). But is her revenge justified…?
Jin Kwon
Last seen: presumably blown to smithereens when the freighter exploded. But we know he’s in Season 5, but is he a ghost, a flashback, or did he somehow survive?
John Locke
Last seen: meeting his destiny by taking over leadership of the Others, and 3 years in the future, pushing up daisies having been killed after leaving the island to ask the O6 to come back.
Juliet Burke
Last seen: getting drunk after watching the freighter — and all hopes of escape — go down in flames. As one of the few longtime characters left on the island, she should have plenty to do in Season 5.
James “Sawyer” Ford
Last seen: washing up on the island, shirtless, after selflessly jumping from a helicopter so others could escape. Don’t expect the shirt to return immediately, but do look for him to play a much bigger role this season.
Benjamin Linus
Last seen: teleported off the island after moving it, and now out for blood against Widmore for killing Alex. The blood in question: Widmore’s daughter Penny. Also (benevolently?) motivated to help Jack reunite the O6.
Desmond Hume
Last seen: reuniting with love-of-his-life Penny after three years on Mystery Island. But he’s still a player in the Lostverse, probably thanks to his ability to see the future.
Pennelope Widmore
Last seen: sailing off into the sunset with Desmond. As much as I’m rooting for Des+Pen 4ever, her future is hardly guaranteed, with Ben doing his all to hunt her down.
Claire Littleton
Last seen: shacking up (not like that) in Jacob’s cabin with Daddy Deadest. Dead or alive, the debate rages on, but don’t expect to see her much, if at all, this season. She’ll be back for Season 6.
Daniel Faraday
Last seen: on a teeny-tiny raft with a few survivors, just off the coast of the island when it vanished. He’ll wash up on the shore soon enough, but where (and when) is the island? His physics expertise should help.
Charlotte Lewis
Last seen: searching the island for her birthplace and showing off some suspiciously intimate knowledge of the Dharma Initiative, while flirting with Daniel.
Miles Straume
Last seen: trying to get his hands on $3.2 million by extorting Ben, and using his gift to talk to every dead person on the island. Something tells me that ability is going to come in very handy.
Frank Lapidus
Last seen: aiding the O6 in their escape from the island. His current whereabouts (after the 3 year time jump) are unknown, and he’s not a regular or recurring character anymore, but we haven’t seen the last of him.
Danielle Rousseau
Last seen: (sadly) murdered by Keamy’s men, alongside her daughter, Alex. But despite her untimely death, we’ve been promised her long-awaited backstory this season.
Rose Henderson
Last seen: vanishing along with the island, and refusing to trust any of the Freighter Folk, especially Miles. Wonder how her cancer is doing these days?
Bernard Nadler
Last seen: standing by his wife, and dispensing husbandly wisdom. Watch for Rose and Bernard to become more important to island life now that the island-based cast has dwindled (temporarily).
Other key players to keep an eye on in Season 5: the eternally mysterious Other, Richard Alpert; dead-and-loving-it Christian Shephard, who’s acting as Jacob’s messenger of late; Ben’s archnemesis Charles Widmore, whose undoubtedly malevolent motives remain murky; time lord and Desmond’s prescient friend, Ms. Hawking; the cryptic (and creepy) Matthew Abaddon; and I’d be very surprised if we’ve seen the last of Walt Lloyd.

Thanks Robin! That helped a lot. I had forgotten about Sayid busting Hurley out.
