24: season 5 Episode 1: 7:00AM-8:00AM

First we’re reminded of what happened last season on 24. 

18 months earlier

Palmer tells Jack that the Chinese are after him.

Someone comes to take Jack and Almeida and Chloe help him fake his death.  Then they shoot him with epinephrine to revive him and have some trouble, but manage to do it. 

Cut to Jack calling Palmer to tell him he’s alive and it was an honor working with him

24 Season 5 episode 1:

7:00 AM

At an Oil refinery a man is dolling out jobs and doesn’t give work to Jack who’s being called Frank.

7:02 A.M.

Palmer is talking about writing his memoirs with his brother Wayne but he seems distracted.  Wayne asks what’s going on saying that it seems like he’s somewhere else these days.  Palmer says that writing his memoirs has made him melancholy and not to worry about it.  They start getting back to work when Palmer is staring out the window and is shot in the neck.  Wayne screams for help.

 Then we see an assassin lowering his rifle from another building.

7:04 A.M.

At the Presidential retreat in Hidden Valley, California the President is talking to his aids about an immanent press conference with the Russian President.  He’s concerned about how the media perceives him saying that it’s the defining moment of his presidency.

Then Logan asks Cummings to look in on his wife because he doesn’t want one of her meltdowns and she’ll only listen to him. 

Novick gets a call that David Palmer is dead and tells the president who doesn’t seem too disturbed by it.  Novick on the other hand looks quite sad which I think is strange considering how he’s treated David in the past.

 7:07 A.M.

At CTU things are going nuts over the ex president’s assassination.  Buchanan has a video conference with the President.  He asks what’s going on.  He wants the person who did it to be dead or in custody by the time the Russian President gets there.  Buchanan thinks the assassination has something to do with the arms agreement.  He suggests holding it off until they figure out who killed Palmer.  President Logan angrily refuses.

7:08 A.M.

Eew Chloe is half naked and in bed.   (She has a Tattoo on her shoulder…she’s a bad girl!) 

She wakes up in an uncomfortable sexual situation with her CTU coworker Spenser Wolff when she gets a text message that Palmer has been killed.

7:10 A.M.

Jack is watching TV and finds out about the assassination.  He’s so sad!  Aww Jacky is so sensitive (when he’s not torturing people)!   His girlfriend knocks on the door and Jack nervously pulls a gun on her, when she says it’s her he holds his gun behind his back.  She says it’s so terrible what happened and then asks if he’s ok.  He says yeah I’m fine and she invites him for breakfast.

Diane Huxley’s (Jack’s girlfriend) comes into her kitchen to tell her son that “Frank” is coming for breakfast.  He sounds annoyed at this and says that he doesn’t trust him.  Diane defends him when he shows up.  The kid is a rebel and is drinking from the orange juice carton.  The kid tries to catch him on a lie about what he told them he was doing the year before.  Derek claims he’s lying then Jack asks what his friend from Alaska was named.  Derek gets uncomfortable and leaves.

7:13 A.M.

Tony Almeida is watching the news of Palmer’s death.  Michelle is calling CTU and Tony pulls the phone away. 

She wants to help out, but Tony says there are other people who can handle it.  Michelle says she doesn’t regret leaving CTU but she doesn’t want to regret not helping.  Michelle kisses him and then leaves to go to CTU. 

Tony picks up the phone to call Rick a coworker…then there’s an explosion that knocks Tony onto the ground.  He runs out to see Michelle’s car burning. 

 He finds Michelle lying on the ground dead and there’s another explosion that encompasses them both.

My husband points out that he thinks the bomb wasn’t planted well because it went off when she opened the door instead of when she turned on the ignition.  Not a very effective way to kill someone when they aren’t necessarily going to stay in the blast area.  (They could get away)

Cut to commercial Time stamp 7:15

7:21 A.M.

At CTU, Edgar Stiles and Spencer (The new Idiot who slept with Chloe) are talking about Michelle being dead and Tony being injured.  He asks if he knew them, he says yeah but doesn’t seem that upset.  He’s looking into connections between Michelle’s bomb and Palmer’s assassination.  He calls Chloe who doesn’t yet know about Michelle and she notices a man in a white van watching her.  She starts to run and tells Edgar she’ll call him back.  ( is it wrong that I hate her character so much I’m hoping they kill her?)  We see Palmer’s assassin inside the van tell the other guy to chase her.  She unnecessarily pushes past people to get away from him…It looks like she’s at an open air mall…anyway she somehow manages to lose him.

7:23 A.M.
Jack’s sitting drinking coffee with Diane when Jack gets a call from Chloe.  She says she knows it isn’t protocol but she needs his help.  He tells Diane there isn’t a good signal and goes outside.  Chloe tells Jack about Michelle being dead and that she’s being chased.  She thinks it’s all about Jack somehow.  He asks what happened to Tony and Michelle.  She tells him it was a car bomb.  He tells her she needs to go dark.  Even CTU she says, he says especially.  He thinks there’s someone who knows he’s still alive.  She says who, he says that’s what we need to find out…(Duh!  If he knew who it was he could kill them in Jack Fashion and everything would be taken care of…stupid Chloe!)  He gives her instructions to an abandoned oil field where he’ll meet her.  He pulls something out of a secret air vent then puts on his sunglasses and heads out the door with really dramatic music playing.

At CTU they’re talking about how Tony is being brought in because if there’s a second attempt on his life he can’t be protected at a hospital.  They’re assuming that Palmer’s death is connected with the bomb.  Audrey Raines is there looking sick to her stomach.  Maybe she’s thinking about Jack?  Buchanan says it must be hard for her to be back there.  They’re talking about how hey think the president should postpone the summit but won’t they think someone will try to kill him with everything going on.

7:27 A.M.

The President is telling the media about Palmer’s death.  That his influence will be felt for years to come.  He says Martha and I give his family our deepest sympathy. 

Cut to Martha Logan getting her hair done.  She seems a bit out of it.  Her helper says she looks beautiful but Martha disagrees saying she looks like a wedding cake.  Then dumps herself into the sink and says let’s start over.

Someone knocks on the door.  She sends Evelyn to get it.  It’s Cummings who asks if she’s ready.  Evelyn says no.  He asks if she told her about David Palmer, she says she didn’t.  He’s glad because she’ll take it hard since they’ve been good friends for a long time. 

He goes into the bathroom to tell her about the news.  He tells her about the assassination and she’s grief stricken.  He pats her on the back.  She asks when it happened, he says that morning. 

Then something changes in her demeanor and she says she needs to talk to her husband immediately.  He says she’s busy doing a press conference, but she says no and runs out.  Cummings calls security to keep Mrs. Logan away from the stage. 

She runs out with half done hair and messed up makeup and is stopped by security.  Novick sees Martha yelling at the guards and goes over.  She says she needs to talk to him right now.  They ask her what’s so urgent.  She says o tell Charles she wants to see him when he’s done.

7:37 A.M.

Jack drives up to the oil refinery and punches a rescue helicopter pilot and drags him into the corner.  He pulls out his gun and kicks over a box to find his girlfriend’s kid Derek.  He says don’t shoot me (he obviously doesn’t know Jack rep very well…he probably will kill or torture you at some point if you don’t get off his back)  He asks what he’s doing there and Derek says he’s just worried about his mother.  Jack says you’re coming with me and forces him against his will into the helicopter.

Tony Almeida is covered in a bloody cloth being wheeled into CTU.  Doctors are talking about his condition.  Curtis says he needs to talk to him before he goes into surgery.  Buchanan says he doesn’t know if it’s possible.  Buchanan says he wants “Real Time” updates on his progress…hehe…In REAL Time! 

7:39 A.M.

Curtis tells Buchanan that he needs to talk to Tony to explain his phone records which show that the last time Tony talked to David Palmer was the day Jack Bauer was killed.  Hmm…Now they know Tony is hiding something about Jack’s death!  (Buchanan looks evil..)

Jack’s in the helicopter with Derek.  Derek asks if he’s kidnapping him.  Jack says no.  He asks where he’s taking him.  He tells him LA.  He asks who he is, he doesn’t really answer and says the less you know about him the better.  He calls Diane and tells her that Derek is with him.  He tells her to pick him up in LA.  She says he’s scaring him.  He says she should drive to LA and not tell anyone anything.

7:41 A.M.

President Logan comes to see his wife who apologizes for making a scene.  Logan says that the doctor says she hasn’t been taking her meds.  She says she doesn’t like the way the pills make her feel.  She says the reason she needed to talk to him was because she thinks the reason David was killed was because of something he was about to tell her.

She says he called her yesterday to say he wanted to talk to her and that it concerned Logan.  Logan says if it concerned me why didn’t he call me himself.  She doesn’t think he believes her.  She say I’m not making this up…he says he’ll have Walt look into it.

He asks her to get ready.

Logan leaves and tells Walt Cummings that she is delusional.  Cummings asks what they’re going to do, he says nothing.

Cut to commercial 7:44

7:50

at CTU Edgar asks Spenser if he’s seen Chloe this morning.  He says no and not to worry about it.  Edgar presses and says he talked to her and she sounded strange.  Spenser says she always sounds strange.  (Chloe sucks)  Spenser says he’s sure she’s fine.  He says he saw her 30 minutes ago and implies that they’re dating.  Edgar doesn’t get it, then figures it out and looks jealous.

Chloe Arrives in a Taxi as Jack is flying there in the helicopter.  Derek wants to know what’s going on.  He says a friend of his is in trouble and that’s the only way he could get to her fast enough.  He lands.  Chloe is running and then gets to a fence.  She climbs under it then notices that she’s bleeding.  (Eww Chloe’s so gross) She runs towards Jack who of course has his gun out pointed at her.  (SHOOT HER!)  They embrace.  She asks what’s happening.  He says he doesn’t know (duh you stupid cow) and that he needs her help to access CTU remotely.  She says they can use her laptop.  Derek comes out and she asks who he is.  They all hop into the helicopter and try to take off as the white van pulls up.  They’re not moving and jack tells them to get out and stay by the side of the helicopter.  He throws smoke bombs and then tells Chloe to take Derek in the refinery.  The bad guys can’t see anything…Jack attacks one of them…Chloe and Derek are running around the refinery.  Jack shoots at a car making it crash.  The guy inside is dead.

7:55

The shooter is in the refinery and sees Chloe and Derek he has his gun pointed at them.  Jack’s following him and as he approaches Chloe, Jack shoots him in the knee, then Chloe shoots him three times in the stomach.  (sheesh, they might want to get information from the guy, do you really need to kill him?)  Jack tells Chloe to back off.  The guy is writhing on the ground in pain when Jack walks up to him gun drawn.  He searches him for weapons while he tells Chloe to take Derek and walk away.

Jack says tell me what you know and I’ll get you to a hospital.  He tells him that the ex president was the primary target and the others were just a diversion. They were trying to set Jack up to make it look like he did it.  The assassin admits to killing Palmer and says he doesn’t know anything else.  He then asks to be taken to the hospital.  Jack looks at Derek and Chloe, (Thinking, hmm, can I still bang his mom after he sees me kill some guy in cold blood?  Oh well) then shoots him in the face.
