#6: Carrie Becomes a Woman
One of the rare instances when a movie transcends the book upon which it is based,
Carrie is every bit as effective today as it was in 1976. That’s because the pain of being an outcast—and the idea of revenge against those who’ve shunned us–is something every person can identify with.
No scene better illustrates this than the opening scene. After Carrie is humiliated and abused by her PE classmates for ‘losing’ a volleyball game, off they go to every teenager’s nightmare: locker room showers.

Carrie looks so blissful in the shower, her contentment in stark relief against the misery she’d experienced just minutes ago. And then…it happens.
The moment is visually stunning, a sudden stream of red staining the clear water from the shower. Carrie notices, and her terrified screams are animalistic. And then the treatment she suffers at the hands of her classmates…truly one of the most effectively disturbing scenes in the history of cinema.

The movie begins with the shock of unexpected blood and the theme is picked up again in the famous prom scene, a rarely seen motif in cinema. Excellent movie all the way through, with a scene nobody will ever forget.
