Oh, how I weep for you 90s children. To have been denied the joy of strolling through an old-fashioned, pre-Blockbuster video store, crammed full of dusty VHS tapes with properly lurid covers, before DVDs redesigned them and made them all slick and safe.
I’m not ready to give up those fabulous VHS covers of yore, and so we’ll celebrate the best…or at least, those that had the most impact on me for some reason.

#13: Ants

This is not a particularly well-designed cover; it definitely lacks creativity points. But every time I went into the local video store (which still had Beta, that’s right) I’d stare at this thing, fascinated, for at least five minutes. I never rented it, but I always stared at it.
Perhaps it was my pre-pubescent self, leaning towards puberty and interested in the boobies I would have one day? I don’t know, except to say this was likely a big hit with the 11-year-old boys in the store, too.
So, for fascinating a bunch of sixth-graders, Ants makes the bottom of the list.
