Lazy Kids and Video Games

Lazy Kids and Video Games

What is with kids these days. I’ll be honest too, I’m talking about my own kids and the kids of my friends. They’re just not willing to work for something anymore are they? I mean they don’t even play hard either. What’s the deal? When I was a kid I spent hours upon hours trying to get past a single bad guy or some weird level on Nintendo Mario Brothers or some other game. I remember… More »

Can You Believe How Cheap Computers Are

Can You Believe How Cheap Computers Are

I was helping a friend this evening who had questions about buying a new desktop PC for his family. He was interested in recommendations on brands. At first I was thinking he wanted something just for the kids, but then found out the ultimate goal is to have something capable of doing photo editing and management and potentially even some video editing. My original thoughts were a real basic, bottom line computer that would be more… More »

New Year’s Day Mega Movie Marathon

New Year's Day Mega Movie Marathon

It’s almost a new year and a new decade, and TNT plans to inaugurate both with an all-day movie marathon on Friday, January 1, 2010.

Even better, the first six flicks in the nine-movie extravaganza will air with limited commercials, which will make them about ten minutes shorter than the two-hour broadcast television norm.

Ten minutes doesn’t seem like much, I know, but viewers should take whatever they can get. Continue reading to check out the sci-fi and fantasy-filled lineup. Showtime… More »

Ke$ha Breaks Digital Download Record

Ke$ha Breaks Digital Download Record

I am guessing that a lot of people really like Ke$ha’s single “Tik Tok” since 610,000 digital tracks have moved as of the week ending December 27, 2009.  That’s the best any song by a female has performed but, granted, they’ve only been keeping track since 2003. So… Is it lame of me to say that I think this song is terrible?  I guess there’s something that I’m not getting but I can see how it would be… More »

10 Years Ago Tonight We Worried About Y2K

10 Years Ago Tonight We Worried About Y2K

I hadn’t even thought of this until earlier this evening when someone mentioned it. Ten years ago tonight the world was worried about what exactly would happen when the calendar flipped over and we switched from the year 1999 to 2000. I’m trying to remember back in that time and I don’t think much of anything really happened did it? It didn’t impact my world really. We had a month old baby in our home and… More »

What Are Your Personal Finance Goals

What Are Your Personal Finance Goals

As tough of a year as 2009 was for most people. I accomplished a couple of different things towards the end of 2009 that will be providing me a much better start to 2010 than I’ve had in any years previous.

In 2009 I finished paying off the last of my credit card debt. Ten years ago when I got married I brought over $15,000 in credit card debt to our budget. We’re now completely out of credit card debt and… More »

Looking Forward to Linux and FOSS in 2010

Looking Forward to Linux and FOSS in 2010

So what do you look forward to this coming year?

Are you counting on Linux and cloud computing? Have your Linux distro and files and setup on your laptop and have it sync somewhere in the cloud? There are some projects that point to that possibility like JolliCloudOS. It’s still by invite only so you can’t really try it out until you receive an invite code.

Definitely Linux on the mobile. Android seems to be paving the way… More »

Things to be Thankful for in 2009

Things to be Thankful for in 2009

Some of the things I am thankful for in 2009 are not really big things but still help me be productive or help me grow more.

Ubuntu working pretty well on my netbook and laptop.
I’ve upgraded my netbook to Ubuntu 9.04 and my laptop to Ubuntu 9.10. The upgrades went pretty well. And there were a lot of things that worked out of the box. That was really awesome. For some things that didn’t work out of… More »

Un-Resolutions for 2010

Un-Resolutions for 2010

I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions. I figure if something is worth doing and important, the motivation for doing it and committing to the decision should be based on something more than it being the beginning of a new year. I spent quite a bit of time in 2009 sitting at my computer working on a variety of projects. I really enjoying working on the computer and doing what I do, but I am… More »

2009 in Linux Gaming

2009 in Linux Gaming

I’ve been learning about various Linux games this year. Some of them look notable, and some of them I’ve tried and had much fun.

Puzzle games: Quantz, GBrainy, World of Goo

One of my co-workers was easily hooked on to Quantz. When I blogged about Quantz she couldn’t help but download it. She was really amazed at the awesome graphics and how fun the game is. Too bad it was just a trial but she was looking forward… More »

How Mini Workouts Work

How Mini Workouts Work

Sometimes even the most dedicated workout stalwarts need to shorten their gym time to meet other commitments.  If you’re loyal to your workout to the point you don’t want to miss it, condense the session into a mini workout.  The mini workout has three key advantages: 1) your muscles still get worked, 2) you still burn calories, and 3) you won’t lose any ground in your development.

To illustrate a mini workout, let’s take a sample chest, tri’s, and shoulder day… More »

On Writing and Tools for Linux

On Writing and Tools for Linux

I’ve blogged about writers tools for Linux users. Some of them I really love and use regularly. Because I am a blogger, I am biased towards blogging clients. For the tools I’ve blogged in 2009, here’s a rundown of the ones I really love.

PyRoom

This is one of the more recent things I’ve blogged about. What’s to love about it? It’s the focus I could have when I am writing something. Especially when I am cramming… More »

My First Movies to See in 2010

My First Movies to See in 2010

I’ve been so busy the last few months that I haven’t really seen many movies that I’d like to see that have already come out and are working their way out of the theaters. We have a local Kerasotes theater here and their $5 Club is when we try to take advantage of current movies in the theaters.

I’m not sure if it’s going to happen, but I’d love to do what I did when I was single and spend the… More »

Happy 2010!

Happy 2010!

Hi guys. I would just like to greet everyone a Happy New Year. May 2010 be an interesting, fun and great year for all of us. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported this blog this past year. This year should be interesting for us WoW players because it’s this year that we’ll finally get to see the ending to the Wrath of the Lich King story, a story that’s been around since the Warcraft 3 days. We’re also… More »

Take my Pistons, please

Take my Pistons, please

NBA Obsessed takes you into the hit and run game of NBA Basketball.

The above title is a one liner from the great comedian of yesteryear, Henny Youngman, from a day gone by when we all watched television on a cathode ray tube of 13 inches in a brown wooden frame with a tinny sounding speaker covered in some sort of brown mesh. The line was Take my Wife – Please.

Henny Youngman was known for his quick one liner jokes… More »
