One of the movies I’m looking forward to this weekend is “Whip It,” the roller derby flick directed by Drew Barrymore and starring Ellen Page as a girl who finds her “tribe” at a roller derby rink. Check out the trailer here, and a behind-the-scenes clip here. Here’s more from MTV: Ellen Page talking about what her roller derby name would be. … More »
Well, that was fun, wasn’t it? In a twisted way, I probably got more out of September’s theme than y’all did. Social networking just isn’t my favorite part of being a freelancer, and I avoid it much more often than I should. So, September was a little kick in the tushie to start networking more, even if it makes me groan. And, I dare say, it hasn’t been all bad. September has brought me new friends, new work, and new… More »
Tonight I’m working on installing Windows 7 on my wife’s laptop. I’d originally thought that I’d have to do a completely clean install. Although I was willing to do that, I didn’t want to take the time to find all of her files and settings and back those up on an external drive so they wouldn’t be lost.
First I downloaded the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor just so I’d be aware of anything that might be important before I started. No… More »
While the entire country continues to struggle due to the various negative effects of the economic recession, even the nation’s most wealthy individuals have had their share of financial loss. The collective worth of the country’s 400 wealthiest people has fallen by $300 billion to $1.27 trillion, according to Forbes magazine.
This loss of wealth among the super rich has also lowered the threshold for the “super rich” designation to $950 million from $1.3 billion in assets. Forbes has reported that… More »
General Motors Co. has decided to wind down the operations of its Saturn brand, GM’s answer to Japanese automakers that was started 24 years ago. While GM had originally intended to sell Saturn to Penske Automotive Group, the latter pulled out of negotiations with GM and has forced GM to make this decision.
Penske, which operated 310 auto retailers, backed out of the deal because it was concerned that it would not have access to new vehicles in 2011 when GM… More »
In order to compensate for increasing amounts of demand for several of its products, electronics retailer Best Buy plans to boost its seasonal staff for the holiday season. According to the company, Best Buy has experienced a surge in demand for products such as televisions compared to last year and has decided to increase hiring accordingly.
Demand for flat-screen televisions, smartphones, and netbooks has increased over the last year, with flat-screen television sales in July actually exceeding sales numbers reached by… More »
Not too long ago everyone on twitter was showing their support for Iran by changing their location. There were a variety of reasons I heard of for changing your location to Tehran, but I never did. I think accurately representing your location in your twitter profile is more important than people think. As you can see from my graphic above, people set their locations to a variety of different uses. Some people are very specific and providing… More »
People generally aren’t talking about Clemson football this year, but maybe they should be, because there is some real talent on the team. During their Week Four game against TCU, tailback CJ Spiller achieved something that has only been done once before in major college football.
The feat in question? After a 60-yard pass reception, he became the second person to ever have at least 2500 yards rushing, 1500 yards in kick off returns, 1000 yards receiving, and 500 yards in… More »
Despite all the good things you have heard in Windows 7, you would still find things that Microsoft could have improved on and PC World staff has some notes on the things they want changed in the operating system. These items that were questioned on the operating system are the following: 1. Most of the tools place menus on the left – this has always been the case and a major change would… More »
The Stargate franchise is like a family with the same parents but whose children are all very different. Stargate SG-1 is the serious, responsible oldest child and Stargate Atlantis is the fun, mischievous youngest child. So that would make Stargate Universe the odd, schizophrenic, middle child who has a tendency to light things on fire.
Yeah, what they’ve been saying all along is true — this is not your father’s Stargate.
I’m sure you’ve already heard the basic premise. A group… More »

Electronic Arts (EA), the makers of the NCAA football video games, as well as Madden and a slew of other sports-related video games, is already being sued by a few players who say that they didn’t have the right to use their likeness in a college-related game. This week, two big names in the NFL stepped forward to support the lawsuit.
You may not know the name Sam Keller, who’s the former quarterback heading up the battle against EA, but it’s… More »
Windows Vista right from the start was a very slow operating system and I couldn’t understand how Microsoft could have released an operating system that required so much hardware power before it could function decent enough. The software was slow and bloated and after a year or two, the operating system just keeps on getting better and better. Because of this Microsoft Windows 7 is so much faster, and this is from a perspective of… More »
Arguably the greatest football player of all-time is making his debut on the Nationwide Tour, as it was announced that soon-to-be Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice has received a sponsors exemption for the 2010 Stonebrae Classic in Northern California. Rice becomes the third former NFL player to tee it up on the Nationwide Tour. He follows former quarterback Mark Rypien and kicker Al Del Greco.
Even more important than Jerry Rice’s participation in the tournament is that it was… More »
