August has been a month about fiction writing. Before the month is over in a few minutes, I wanted to leave you with one final note about fiction. It’s more of a warning.
As a freelance writer, don’t fictionalize your own life to get jobs.
We’re all guilty of this to a small extent, though “fictionalization” may be a very strong word for what the normal writer does. Basically, we show off our best assets when we want a job. For… More »
So what happens when you cross an influential blogger who has 1+ million followers, a new washing machine that doesn’t work, and Twitter? You get a social media circus that either gives a company nightmares or the opportunity to shine.
The background
You may have heard of Dooce. Heather Armstrong. Yes, she first became well-known for getting fired from writing her blog. But since then she has morphed into an internet celebrity. Books. TV appearances. And a web site that not only… More »
In the last few weeks, I’ve received a few email messages from retirees talking about how much they enjoy Twitter. Now that I think about it, twitter and retirement is a perfect combination. Why? Here’s a rundown:
Free Time
Many retirees complain about having too much free time. With Twitter, there’s no such thing as too much free time!
Help Remembering
Many seniors (and not-so-senior people) can use help when it comes to their memory. If you tweet throughout the day, you can use… More »
The Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t dominating the National League like they were earlier in the season. On Monday, the club brought in some reinforcements by trading for Jim Thome and John Garland.
Thome comes from the Chicago White Sox where he was hitting .249 with 23 homers, 55 runs and 74 RBIs. The 39-year-old has solely been a designated hitter in the last couple years. With that in mind, he may simply be used as a pinch hitter by the Dodgers.
“We’re… More »
Tedy Bruschi is calling it a career. The New England Patriots linebacker announced his intentions on Monday. It brings an end to a 13-year NFL career — with all games played with the Patriots.
Although he has played less and less in recent years, this announcement was somewhat surprising. The Patriots will now need to rely on their young linebacking corps to fill in the gaps. However, New England won’t be able to replace Bruschi’s leadership, passion and inspirational presence on… More »
Do you like to gamble? If so, here are the NFL players who represent the biggest risks in the 2009 fantasy football season. These are players you should definitely avoid if you don’t like walking on the wild side.
QB Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals
He’s coming back from an elbow injury that knocked him out last season. While he’s reportedly healthy, it’s not too difficult to imagine him getting re-injured. On top of that, the top wide receiver on his team is… More »
I know. I hadn’t ever heard of an EWwy Award either. But it’s a new one given by Entertainment Weekly, thus the EWwy. They know that many of us feel that our favorite actors have done amazing work on their shows for many years, but have never been given an Emmy. They fell it’s time to acknowledge them with an EWwy instead.
There are lots of nominations, but the reason I’m posting… More »
Jerry Hairston Jr. was playing third base for the New York Yankees against the Baltimore Orioles because Alex Rodriguez had the day off. On Monday, Hairston received a lot of unwanted pub after he ruined Andy Pettitte’s perfect game bid.
In the seventh inning, Pettitte still was going strong with his perfect game. But Hairston committed an error on a ground ball with two outs to end the perfect game bid. The next batter, Nick Markakis, hit a single to end… More »
I have just written an article on whether Microsoft should leave Windows Vista in the dust or not. The key point is that Windows Vista is picking up steam right now while Windows XP’s adoption is falling behind.
It could be noted that Windows 7 was pushed much earlier because users wouldn’t want to move out of Windows XP and Microsoft’s million dollar marketing campaign could not change the negative image of the operating system.
Releasing a new operating system under… More »
Microsoft has some very important decisions to make in the coming months on their Windows strategy. They are bound to release Windows 7 in October and pushing this operating system much earlier is the slow adoption of Windows Vista and the continous usage of Windows XP.
However; a lot of factors have contributed to this state which includes the economic crisis, massive bugs in Vista in the early months, the negative publicity that could not be overturned, the rise of… More »

I’m seriously thinking about permanently hanging up my sword belt in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Ragnarok Online. What the hell for? Well, I’ve realized that I’m getting too old for this game.
Not.
Actually, I’m just a little flustered after a few hours of playing my merchant TikaWaylan on Valkyrie, the free-to-play server of Ragnarok Online Philippines. Oh, yeah, she’s now a blacksmith. Damn job change quest!
The source of my frustration is, as you may have already guessed, the Blacksmith… More »

There are hundreds of websites, if not more, that have sprung up from nowhere to help people manage their twitter accounts, updates and stay on top of everything else going on in the twitterverse. One of those sites is TweetGrid.
Most people who want to track and manage a variety of topics that are being discussed on twitter would prefer using a twitter client like TweetDeck, DestroyTwitter, Twhirl or Seesmic Desktop to help keep up-to-date on what’s being tweeted.
All the clients… More »
