The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a crushing blow as they were easily beaten by the Detroit Red Wings in Game 2 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals. The defending champions now have a 2-0 series lead.
First of all, I know a lot of people are not pleased by the back-to-back games in Detroit at the start of this series and I’ve got to say that I really didn’t like it much either. I’m not crying about it or blaming the scheduling… More »
We’ve all had them. Those family photos that we wish we could go back in time and retake or just not show up for at all. I’ve got a family Christmas photo that catches me in an award-winning stupid grin, and also highlights my waistline as you can almost hear the button on my shirt screaming to release and pop-off. The Awkward Family Photos website captures these photos we wish were never taken and shares them with… More »
A writer’s space is often a snapshot of just how successful they can expect to be during their work time. Need convincing? Just look at my workspace evolution:
I started writing when I was in college. My workspace was a desk where I also did homework, and I shared the room with one of my friends – though it was an actual apartment, not a dorm room, so we had a separate living space. I only did freelancing part-time, and my… More »
So many of you are out there in the market competing for jobs. Prior to the unemployment rate increasing, HR departments were very good at communicating rejection to job seekers. If you applied, received an interview, typically you received a phone call or letter to let you know the status of your application. Today, not so. Many job seekers interview for a job, and then go home and wait by the phone. Unfortunately, the waiting may seem eternal when you… More »
There are so many web sites and blogs and forums and social networks out there that it’s just plain hard to keep track of everything that’s being said about your business. You can try to keep up, but after a while it just gets overwhelming. Before you know it, your RSS reader has 1000 unread messages. Who has time to slog through all of that information just to see if someone’s talking about you?
Here are a few easy ways to… More »
Honestly, after all this hoopla over Jon and Kate Plus Eight, I am pretty sure that I can’t handle another reality TV show about a bunch of kids but it looks like it’s going to happen whether I like it or not.
Nadya Suleman, also known as Octomom, has signed a deal with a British production company. She, along with the world’s longest-surviving set of octuplets and her six older children will be followed around by cameras during special occasions (family… More »
We’re less than two days away from the official start of E3 here in sunny L.A., which begins on Tuesday (though a trio of major press conferences take place Monday). I got into town today and took a long walk around the Los Angeles Convention Center, where signs of E3 are popping up all over. If there was any doubt about this year’s event being a return to the truly big E3s of yesteryear, those thoughts were washed away by… More »
Edinson Volquez, who has been on the disabled list due to a back injury, will make his return to the pitching mound on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals. He hasn’t been able to pitch since May 16th.
Prior to last season, the Cincinnati Reds acquired Volquez in a deal that sent Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers. Although Hamilton blew up in Texas, Volquez was also really good. Last year, the native of the Dominican Republic was 17-6 with 206… More »

UNC Charlotte’s plans to launch a football program is facing problem after problem. Although the school recognizes the potential of such a sports program, the board of trustees might push back the plan.
The orginal plan was to launch the programs to be playable n 2013. Right now, however, the pre-sale of ticket for that year is lower than expected, and the board of trustees is considering changing the launch to 2014 or even further into the future.
The first plan for… More »

A few weeks ago, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer sounded disgruntled and seemingly careless about the return of receiver Chad Ochocinco to Bengals’ minicamps and OTAs (I shared his sentiments). After all, Chad was MIA from “voluntary” workouts at a time when the team really needed to be forming some sort of offensive identity. With one of their best players missing, however, that’s obviously a difficult task to achieve.
But more recently, Carson spoke with a hopeful tone and said he… More »
