Oh Crap Situation 29: Computer Problems

Oh Crap Situation 29: Computer Problems

Before you say “Not another compuuuuter situation,” I have taken into account my previous posts and come up with a general way to address the potential hazards of not knowing how to use a computer.  It’s okay not to be computer savvy, but let’s say you have a problem and a technician is called in to fix your computer.  The technician tells you everything you need to do to prevent this from happening again – but you didn’t get all… More »

Ken and Ryu versus Ken and Ryu

Ken and Ryu versus Ken and Ryu

It’s really amazing what video game developers can do with today’s technology. I remember playing Street Fighter on the Nintendo Family Computer and that game is a far cry from today’s version of Street Fighter. Viewing several videos of fights between Ken and Ryu has made my loins ache for a good gaming rig on which I can play the best fighting games. Unfortunately, consoles are expensive on my side of the planet, more so the game cartridges that come… More »

Home Depot Cashes In on CFL Technology

Home Depot Cashes In on CFL Technology

We all know that switching out our old bulbs at the office (and at home) and replacing them with CFL versions is better for the environment and our pocketbooks. It seems like bigger businesses are starting to catch on as well. My one question: What took you so long? Home Depot has announced that they’ll be replacing all of their showroom lights to CFL bulbs by 2008. In other words, all of those bulbs in display lamps will now be… More »

College Rape Cases: A Dime a Dozen

College Rape Cases: A Dime a Dozen

Today, it was announced that a player from Georgia Tech, Jerrard Tarrent, has been charged with raping a girl in an dorm room this past April. She reported the incident the next morning, although the charges are just now hitting the media. Now don’t get me wrong – I don’t know his unknown accuser. What she is saying could be very real and very serious, and if so, my heart goes out to this girl. On the other… More »

Ken and Ryu animated gifs

Ken and Ryu animated gifs

I just love animated gifs. I call them the poor man’s Flash animation. I love animated gifs even more if they feature stuff that I’m really into, like video games. In my search for these gems, I’ve found three interesting animated gifs of Ken and Ryu of Street Fighter fame. Here, take a gander:

The Evolution of Ken and Ryu

The Evolution of Ken and Ryu

I’ve found this really neat article about this very subject, The Evolution of Ken and Ryu. Actually, I’ve been wanting to write something just like it for the longest time, but since I don’t have the entire Street Fighter collection within my grasp, I decided not to push through with it.

Here’s the introduction to the article on GamesRadar written by Tyler Wilde:

Ken and Ryu are cultural icons. Legends. Even most non-gamers, assuming they have at least a cursory knowledge of… More »

Google experimenting on Video-Film Distribution

Google experimenting on Video-Film Distribution

I just read from NYtimes.com that Google is planning to distribute original film via internet exclusively and then make money on ad sales.

“In September, Seth MacFarlane, creator of “Family Guy” on television, will unveil a carefully guarded new project called “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy.” Unlike “Family Guy,” which is broadcast on Fox, this animation series will appear exclusively on the Internet.

The innovative part involves the distribution plan. Google will syndicate the program using its AdSense advertising system to… More »

Who’s Playing Rock Band With You.

Who's Playing Rock Band With You.

See what I did there? That ain’t no question mark at the end of that sentence. That’s a period, boy. What do you suppose this implies?

In a bid to prove that it’s just as capable of running a franchise into the ground as its adversaries at Activision, EA has announced Rock Band 2 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will be available in September. This probably doesn’t surprise anyone.

Ah, but this might make you happy, you jaded… More »

We Already Knew Amy Ryan Will Return to ‘The Office’

We Already Knew Amy Ryan Will Return to 'The Office'

…and we knew she won’t stay for the entire fifth season because that was announced way back after the fourth-season finale aired, when it really was news.

So, I have no clue why dozens of entertainment publications are writing about the following as if it’s a recent development, but I thought I’d play along just in case I missed something important the first time around and misunderstood when New York Magazine wrote very clearly and legibly “it’s thought that Ryan won’t… More »
