So for those who already have a digital or high def television, you are already in the clear from this story. But for those who have yet to switch over to a digital-capable set, this one is for you. The FCC has passed new rules saying that broadcasters are now able to reduce or kill off their analog signal before the February 17, 2009 deadline. This is honestly a really odd rule that they announced, but if it will push… More »
Oh, DirecTV, it’s quite a love-hate relationship anymore, isn’t it? What with announcing 100 HD channels by the end of the year, but still coming up short (which will be an essay in itself), yet providing (most) of the necessary HD channels, we really don’t know what to do with ourselves. Well, DirecTV has launch the Tennis Channel in HD for fans of the sport who miss out on their sport being in HD. All documentaries, series, and specials will… More »
A recent survey released by the Consumer Electronics Association shows that over 50% of American households have a digital television in their home. That means that over 50% of households will not have a problem getting the new signal in 2009, but that still means people need to switch over or else I have this idea that people may begin to think the world is coming to an end, which isn’t good for anyone. Hopefully the government makes a big… More »
I wish everyone all around the world a Happy New Year! (I also missed Christmas, so Merry Late Christmas.) Here’s to an even better 2008.
I leave you this year with a video recap of all the years major events. Remember, just because bad things happened doesn’t mean we are a bad planet or people. So many good things happen, but we simply don’t cover in the mainstream media.

Starting on January 1, 2008 (that’s tomorrow, if you didn’t know), China’s Central TV is going to broadcast in HD, and starting their broadcast with over-the-air, while it was previously a cable-only channel. Those who want to watch CCTV over-the-air may have to buy a separate external set-top box to receive the signal. So the New Year will bring OTA HD and the Olympics in HD from Beijing, a good combination for those who are missing out.EngadgetHDCCTV … More »
With that shiny new HD just illuminating your room better than any Time Square ball could do (even with it being twice as bright and more energy efficient), you really want to stay home tonight. Well, you’re not alone. In fact, ESPN is hosting a couch-potato contest and the winner of it will get $5,000, an HDTV, and a recliner. Wait, this is the couch-potato contest, why are you winning a recliner?WCBSTV.com ArticleEngadgetHD … More »
With New Years upon us in North America in just a few ours, news from the HD section is coming out, so let’s start with LG.Philips’ announcement. They have already made some pre-CES announcements on five new panels, all of which are pretty nice. So let’s get the details down from small(er) panels to large: 42″ Transflective LCD with 1,500cd/m2 brightness rating 47″ Double-sided LCD at 70mm thick with a 500cd/m2 brightness with the ability to display on both sides (wow…) 47″ Triple-view… More »
While many Comcast subscribers are happy to have an integrated TiVo box into their existing cable set-top box, some early adopters are finding that it may not be the blessing in disguise that many have come to hope for. It may in fact be just a TiVo theme on their existing Motorola DVR OS. There is no TiVoToGo, media sharing, eSATA support, or Amazon Unbox or Rhapsody service. Also not included is your favorite TiVo hacks. So basically what you… More »
I failed to mention this story earlier, but a German court did overturn the temporary injunction issued against T-Mobile on December 4th. The injunction forced T-Mobile to sell unlocked iPhones in Germany capable of being on any GSM carrier.
You can read more on the temporary injunction in this previous iPhone 24×7 article.
You can still buy an unlocked iPhone in France due to the fact French law requires it to be unlocked after 6 months.

45nm – What exactly does that mean, and why does it matter?
When we talk about a chip being 65nm or 45nm we are talking about the size of the transistor, the foundation of modern computing – the thing that signals on and off, within a microprocessor. 1nm is 1 billionth of a meter to give some scale.
Current mainstream Intel chips are using 65nm technology. Meaning each transistor on the chip is 65nm across. Starting with the Penryn core, Intel will… More »
