Duncan Riley uses a Nokia 6280

Duncan Riley uses a Nokia 6280

Our VP of Operations for b5media has finally upgraded his old phone to a Nokia 6280. The 6280 is one of the better Nokia “classic line” phones currently available because of its good form factor (it fixed a lot of the bad juju from the Nokia 6270) and an improved camera. Yeah, so it has a 2MP sensor, but the quality is much much better compared to other 2MP cameraphones in the market.

I’ve got a Nokia 6280. It has a… More »

The Picture Tools Ribbon

The Picture Tools Ribbon

The Picture Tools ribbon could very well be in my Top 5 list of new features in Office 2007. I’m regularly working with images in my day job, with blogging and with my variety of web clients. For most of my work I’m using a variety of programs ranging from the free Irfanview, to SnagIt, to the full-featured Macromedia Fireworks MX.

But for quick editing of images and making some creative changes to graphics, Word has started to become fairly full-featured for… More »

Tragic Assery

Tragic Assery

The ad:"We all know the horror stories of 9/11. I want to hear your minor tragedies. Were you supposed to start a great new job at the WTC on September 12? Did you have your only copy of your fantastic book manuscript on your computer at the WTC? Did the falling towers crush the car that you had just had pimped out on Pimp My Ride? I want your minor WTC tragedy stories, the stories that you are almost ashamed… More »

customizing Firefox: themes, extensions, toolbars, about:config

customizing Firefox: themes, extensions, toolbars, about:config

I love Firefox 2.0! Lifehacker (motto: ‘don’t live to geek;geek to live’) offers a short list of hacks you can make to your about:config file and tells you how to Keep track of the latest Firefox developments; Firefox Help and Tips lists 2.0 sites as well. (Go here for more Lifehacker Firefox stories)
I’ve been adding in Firefox extensions as they become compatible and even forced a few incompatible extensions to work with Firefox 2.0. (I did it… More »

Rockman of the Meteor Shower Holographic Cards

Rockman of the Meteor Shower Holographic Cards

Rockman of the Meteor Shower (Ryuusei no Rokkuman) is a Wi-Fi Nintendo DS game that will debut on 14th December 2006 in Japan. During this period of waiting, McDonald’s in Japan presents the Rockman of the Meteor Shower Character Change Cards in their Happy Meals. Something special about the cards is that they are holographic and contain passwords that allow you to get special items for the version of the game you have (Pegasus, Leo or Dragon).

Explaining the linux file structure

Explaining the linux file structure

I remember when I first used linux I was baffled by the amazingly strange file structure. usr, opt, proc, what do they mean?

Although I never looked it up and learnt it as I went along I think many things would have been clearer if I had.

This page gives a good overview of what goes where.

One thing I would add to that is that /opt is often used to house software. Programs will sometimes be stored in /opt/ProgramName/ and are then… More »

‘Exploring /proc’

'Exploring /proc'

I stumbled across this article earlier that gives a good look at the /proc pseudo filesystem.

The contents of /proc can be safely ignored if you want to but for the more curious it can be very interesting.

Happy reading!

Christmas comes early for the Oakland Raiders

Christmas comes early for the Oakland Raiders

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

How cool is it to beat the champs?

You are the worst team in football. You do not score a touchdown. Your quarterback completes 5 passes. You beat last year’s Super Bowl Champs. Pass the champagne.

That is exactly what the Oakland Raiders did this last Sunday. With the help of… a couple of interceptions for touchdowns, one of them a 100 yard return by Chris… More »

Office 2007 Packaging

Office 2007 Packaging

Here’s the new packaging you should be looking for when you’re browsing your favorite software retailer shopping for the next version of Microsoft Office suite.

I’ve been running Office 2007 now for about 6 months or so across the various iterations. I’ve been pleased with the new features and organization of information. It does take a little bit of getting used to and finding some of the lesser used features, but that’s the whole point right. Anything you’re going to be… More »

The $4 Article Writer

The $4 Article Writer

A couple of days ago I wrote The $4 Article Buyer which linked to Carson Brackney’s interview with a fellow in India who buys articles for four bucks or less. Mike Sieber commented, admitting he writes for this rate, more or less. I emailed him and he agreed to an email interview. Btw, Mike has a decent website and a blog and he is a pretty good writer.

Q: How long have you been writing for pay? Or how long have… More »
